Dream the crow black dream...

Nothing had to jiggle his walkman a few times, drained batteries and overused cassette tape rattling around inside, to get it to play. There was sand in the workings and he could hear it grate every time he ejected a tape, the black plastic worn and sunbleached. But Nothing came out at night, not because he had to, but because everything was always ( Read more... )

Being that he was in a new circumstance, it meant that Wesley occasionally experienced difficulties in finding sleep easily. His latest method of shaking this had been a walk. Though he'd been on the Island for over a year, he'd yet to ever venture out unarmed and he had his new dagger with him when he discovered the young man, who bore something familiar about him.

Perhaps not in his facial features, but in his attitude. It reminded him of something, but he could hardly say what, yet. "Are you all right?" Wesley asked, curiously.

He wouldn't have even noticed the man if he hadn't dropped his eyes just then, stopping mid-turn, green liqueur splashing over his bottom lip, a tiny drop disappearing underneath his chin.

He blinked slowly and then tugged the headphones from his ears, a curious frown creasing his face. "Yes. Don't I look alright?"

Wesley hardly moved, a still wash over his body, as though frozen in time. No, he didn't look precisely the way a man should, but he couldn't put his finger on what exactly was wrong. "Not many people you find out singing to the stars."

And clearly intoxicated.

"Well, maybe they should," Nothing answered simply, leveling the man with the very same scrutinizing look currently directed at him, "And I'm not most people."

Since Tobi had gotten his boat, he'd had a hard time leaving it at night. Joe had assured him that people would be helping him build a boathouse soon, but they were all backed up for the moment, trying to take care of all the requests that had been put on hold during the snow. So, Tobi'd taken to spending as much time on the beach with his new boat -- which, after much thought, he'd finally decided to name Anke -- and even sleeping beside it and inside it at night.

Luckily, it never got too cold. However, it really wasn't the most comfortable place either.

The sound of someone laughing and singing got his attention after awhile and Tobi shifted in the floor of the boat, managing to thunk his head against one of the seats and ram his knee into another before he peaked his head up over the rim, cursing quietly in German.

He was already looking out toward the water when a head of mussed hair and two eyes peeked over the rim of the beached rowboat. He wasn't startled, but he paused, staring back for a long moment before wandering closer. Tugging his headphones loose to hang around his neck, he climbed over the edge wordlessly and scrunched himself down in the small bit of space not already occupied by the other boy.

"Careful," he murmur quietly, turning off the tape and passing over the bottle.

It hadn't taken Tobi very long to recognize the boy considering how distinctive he was, but there wasn't really any explanation for why his throat tightened a little as Nothing came closer. And there wasn't really any explanation for Nothing joining him either, but Tobi didn't say a word of objection, just watching with wide eyes before Nothing passed him the bottle of what clearly smelled like alcohol.

A smile, somewhat curious smile curved his lips then and he took a quick taste and blanched just slightly at the taste before giving a quick laugh and handing it back. "What are you hearing?" he asked, tapping his own ear in demonstration, afraid he wasn't saying it right.

Shifting forward, Nothing slipped the headphones from around his own neck and slide them over Tobi's ears instead, clicking play and turning the volume down a little. It's not like you could explain The Cure. You had to experience it.

He took the bottle back and took a drink, sliding a cracked jewelcase from his pocket and handing it over. Pornography

The more I walk, the more I think I remember my way back. I know him. I remember him, and he looks really excited, so I stand back and watch him for a minute, with my hands shoved in my pockets.

His name's a weird one. "Almost" or "Something" or something like that.

Nothing.

Until the music starts to fade, Nothing might as well be alone on the beach, wavering between a murmur and a shout, bare feet kicking up sand in their wake. But he turns and sees the figure there, half hidden in shadow, and at first he doesn't know if its someone he knows or a stranger. Or someone not even there at all.

"Hello."

"Hey."

My voice comes out, all rough and misused, and I try again.

"Hey." I nod towards him. "You dancin'?"

"Close enough," he nodded, walking over closer and slipping the headphones from his own ears and onto Chris's.

Few things are quite as fascinating as human, or with the island he should probably human and non, behavior when one wasn't immediately aware that they were being watched. That was when they were the most open, the most rawly themselves, not hiding their nature and decieving themselves and other's. Rather poetic actually, even if it was something as simple as an intoxicated young man dancing maddly on the beach.

It seemed whenever Charles managed to find this boy iut was under the stars, and no matter, the stars were lovely things. Miss Trance was a sure testement to that.

"You seem to be enjoying yourself!" he called, not sure if he'd be heard over the contraption on the boy's ears.

Not heard, but seen. He's one of the many people on the island Nothing has no clue what to think of. It felt a little like sitting at the top of the stairs late at night, looking down through the railings into the dining room to watch one of Mother and Father's dinner parties. A room full of strange upright animals in dresses and suits and holding silver flatware.

Volume cranked down low but not completely off, he nodded a hello, pushing long hair out of his face and taking another drink.

"Delightful night, isn't it?" He began, with no particular care for if the boy could hear him or not. "Though, I suppose you don't need me to make that assumption, you're clearly having your own little private party. You really are quite the night owl aren't you?" It wasn't surprising, Charles was nowhere near knowing Nothing well, but he could tell from just looking at how the boy's hair combined with the dark and the light of the stars and moon on his pale complexion that the boy belonged to the night in some way.

"Have you been well?" He asked, head tilting in a curious angle. "Quite a bit has happened in the past few months, it seems everyone is upset and bouncing back or somehow remained blissfully unaffected."

The man talked a lot. A jumble of polite, cheerful words, most of which Nothing had no interest in. He had a dramatic flare about the way he moved, and Nothing found himself watching instead of listening, head tilted in a gesture almost exactly mirroring the man's.

"I'm alright. I've been bouncing back since I got here, the past few months weren't so bad."

Arthur had a camera. had come with some extra equipment, but he had decided to leave that in his hut. He wasn't quite sure how it worked, but instructions seemed to fix most any problem, that and simply using whatever the item might be. That was precisely the reason he found himself out and about at night. He was sad to see the snow actually gone, but some things couldn't stay.

He pointed the camera to get a good distance shot and smiled when he noticed Nothing. He was still surprised how light the camera was as he made his way over to Nothing. He tried to be silent, not because he thought Nothing wouldn't hear him, but simply because he didn't want to disturb the moment.

Slipping the headphones from his ears, Nothing stopped only a few feet away, not smiling but something, down deep under his skin, was glowing. "You're not going to be able to get a good shot, out here in the dark."

Arthur grinned. "I was mainly just practicing using it." He turned the camera around. "I can also delete pictures, though that's a little more complicated. And the flash is pretty bright." He might have sounded just a bit like a kid with a new toy.

"I've never seen one so small," he said, squinting through the darkness at the screen and all the little buttons.
