What Veronica Mars thought of the island was varied at best. Some days she liked it; others, she wanted never to have arrived. Whatever the case was on any given day, there was this to be said for the island. Every now and then, it did something right - a party on New Year's Eve, a dog for a late Christmas present, even the presence of penguins. ( Read more... )

It was a day full of wandering. Not as much sketching or drawing as Angela had hoped, but sometimes inspiration required time to germinate in your head.

So, grinning as she caught sight of Veronica, Angela started in her direction, intending to fall into step with her if more walking was the option. "Hey you," she greeted warmly. "I feel like I haven't seen you in a while."

"Just been practicing going invisible," Veronica said, smiling. She turned to walk backward, facing Angela. "Just 'cause you don't see me doesn't mean I'm not everywhere." She waved her hands to illustrate, taking in what seemed to be the whole of the island with her gesture. "What're you up to?"

Angela laughed lightly and shook her head. "You never met Jack Hodgins, did you? Telling him something like that would have gotten his blood going."

She was somewhat proud of the fact that she got Jack's name out without too much strain, and kept a smile on her face the whole time. "I'm just enjoying the tropics and looking for something to draw with all the art supplies that showed up in my room this morning. What'd you get?"

"I never did," Veronica said. She knew who he was or had been, though, as much because of his connection to Angela as because of his job in the lab. It was the kind of thing she just knew.

"It's less 'Merry Christmas' and more 'hey, look, the sun is back!'" she said. The snow, she grudgingly admitted, had its share of entertainments, but she preferred the great indoors during the island's strange winter months. She was less likely to freeze indoors and snow struck her as unnatural even when an island wasn't involved. "I got... equipment. For the IBI. So I guess Jack Hodgins really would have had something to get excited about, knowing we've got a listening device now."
