growing pains dissolve in lemonade

The days since the first, last and only performance of Wicked had started blending back together, leaving Eden once again at a loss for how to occupy herself. She was taking classes, but they didn't exactly fill her time and she didn't have any intention of becoming a full time academic. Something else would come along soon, but she was looking for ( Read more... )

"Eden?" Bennet asked warily as he wandered in, one side leading more than the other, the side where his gun was tucked under his shirt. He gave the blonde woman a suspicious stare. "You didn't tell me that she's here."

Veronica eyed the man right back. "We've met before," she said wryly, the hand holding the dart lowering to her side. "Remember? Actually, I was about eight, so I can see how it would be hard to recognize me."

That threw Eden off for a moment. "Wait, you've met?" She shook her head. "This is Veronica Mars. She's a friend." By that, she hoped to telegraph and not Elle loud and clear. She also wanted to stall before figuring out how she was supposed to introduce Bennet.

"That's right," Bennet remarked, his tone still wary and clipped. "You looked like my daughter." His gaze drifted to meet Eden's. "Veronica Mars, is it? Eden, you didn't tell me the resemblance was so uncanny."

The epitome of everything he didn't want Claire to be, physically manifested right before him.

Marian barely noticed her student or the other woman, a book in her arms, and her gaze focusing on something distant. One of the thunks brought her back to herself, and she looked at the two with a slight frown before she recognised Eden and gave her a small smile, pausing in her path.

Eden smiled and waved. "Salut," she said. It just seemed right to greet her French teacher in French. As she spoke, Veronica let another dart fly, landing somewhere in the vicinity of Sam's forehead.

"Salut Eden," Marian responded, her smile turning not back to a frown but to confusion. "Is Veronica performing some sort of target practise?"

"It was a present from my ex-boyfriend," Veronica said cheerfully. "He grew a sense of humor. Want a go?"

Jason may still have blank space here and there when he tries to remember certain things, but it didn't take much to figure out that he had an innate sense of curiosity. It comes out more recently, without the constant pressure of looking behind his back and trying to figure out his past. Both are still issues he deals with, but they're no longer all-consuming.

It makes slowing to a stop as he passes the two girls and the dartboard with some poor guy's face on it easy. "Nice aim."

Veronica glanced up, mouth already fixed in a lopsided grin before she realized she was looking at Matt Damon. "Thanks," she said, only letting herself falter a moment. "I find practicing on exes helps." That, and over a year of working with Arya and all the other weapons instructors the island had to offer. It did a lot for a girl's aim, among other things.

"She means the photographic kind," Eden added dryly. "Mostly, anyway. I think." She glanced over at Veronica, arching an eyebrow. It was hard to tell sometimes. She didn't actually think Veronica would throw darts at Sam, though. Not without the right provocation at least.

Jason's mouth quirks, and an eyebrow goes up. While he and Marie had lived a life on the run, their relationship had had it's more normal moments, and he's already wondering what the guy did to earn this kind of reaction.

"I see," he says, smile growing a bit. "Will it help if I say not all men are bad enough to earn their faces on dartboards?"

"You've got to be kidding me," Penny sighed, stopping in her tracks to look at the girl beside her. She'd been, however indirectly, accused of this sort of thing a good number of times in the years she'd done what she did so well, but - as far as she could remember - never falsely ( ... )

"Veronica's ex made her a present," Eden said, innocent and wide-eyed, voice dripping sweetness. There was a sort of glee underneath, or amusement at the very least. "With himself on it. He has an interesting sense of humor, apparently." She shrugged one shoulder, looking from one girl to the other. "Making new friends, Penny?"

"At least he has one," Veronica said, voice low. She cocked her head to the side, looking from Lucy to the other girl, Penny.

Penny.

Now, she hadn't seen that movie in over two years, but the name Penny and that face were more than a little familiar. "We haven't met yet." She offered a hand to Penny. "I'm Veronica. Lucy, want a go?"

Even with the information she'd just been given, Lucy needed no hesitation before nodding, a grin breaking across her face as she crossed to get a dart from Veronica. "Yes, actually, I think I would," she said, and with a gentle bite on her lower lip to ignore what was left of the scrapes on her palms, she aimed and threw the dart.

"I take it this is...that ex, then?" she asked carefully, glancing over her shoulder. She didn't even know where she stood with her own ex anymore, come to think of it, not after all that had happened after the party and now what she'd been told.

John was wandering out of the Compound with his notebook in one hand and a biscuit in the other - he could not get enough of the food here, and was finally starting to put on a little weight - and stopped to stare at the two young ladies apparently enacting some sort of symbolic game of revenge, having turned a picture of a young man into a dartboard.

"What on earth did that poor fellow do to you?" he asked, simultaneously amused and somewhat horrified. The women here were very strange.

"The poor fellow in question," Veronica deadpanned, "made it for me as a present." She didn't recognize the man, although he looked vaguely like Dumbledore. He was closer to her own height, though, which was something. It was nice not to have to look up and up all the time. "An apology, I guess."

After breaking up with her was probably the wrong thing to add, so Eden simply looked from one to the other, shrugging. What could be done with Veronica? Not much. "It's just for fun."

"I thought perhaps it was something like those dolls that witches make - where the harm inflicted on the doll happens to the person whom it resembles. That dart there shall give him a bloody nose by nightfall, I dare say - but if he made it himself, then he has no-one but himself to blame."

Both ladies were pretty, but he couldn't help but feel some affinity for the smaller of the two - she was exactly his height, a rarity on an island seemingly inhabited by giants.
