It had been nearly a week since Pullo had seen battle alongside his friend and Brother, and he was still basking in the afterglow. It was like that brief period of time following sex, that perfect contentment; except sex didn't leave him with so many cuts and bruises. Well, not the sex he'd been accustomed to before coming here. If only his sweet ( Read more... )

Approaching his friend, Vorenus' movements were ginger from the wounds he also sported, though a man would have to have served with him to know it. He watched in silence as Pullo climbed from the pool and began to sharpen his sword, for a moment reluctant to break his friend's unusual quiet.

"Is this what passes for a bath here?" he asked eventually.

Titus looked up with a small, but warm smile. "Where else would it be, brother? The ocean's a poor choice."

"In their Compound, they have water that flows from the ceiling." Vorenus folded his arms. "Turn the lever, and the water goes hot or cold."

"You've been keeping this prize to yourself, have you?" Pullo asked, though he didn't sound entirely pissy.

Tyra thought she'd take a swim, in her favourite bikini and her big Hollywood shades. Really, she just wants to get the hell away from Landry and Tim for a while. They're both sort of driving her mad.

She drops her towel beside the pool, only dimly aware of the man opposite her. She dips her toe into the water.

"Holy shit, that's cold."

Titus glanced over at the woman with an appreciative look. Amazing what women wore around here, he wasn't sure he'd ever get used to it. "It's easier if you get in all at once," he suggested.

"You think?" Tyra looks across the pool and arches an eyebrow, one hand resting on her hip. "I think I might about fuckin' die if I do it all at once."

Pullo looked straight at her, eyes squinted some from the sunlight filtering in through the trees. "Only if you can't swim," he replied.

Arthur was grateful that he had found his horses once again. Having set them free when the madness of a week prior, to fend for themselves and let their instincts lead them, Arthur had not been sure they would return and, if they did, what state they would be in.

As it was, it appeared the only state they found themselves in was thirsty. The waterfall was some ways from Arthur's shelter, but one of the few sources of fresh water available. They approached the clear water and Arthur let both horses off their lead lines. Lorica plodded forwards for a drink, but the colt danced away and, in typical curious fashion, stepped over to the reclining man, snuffling loudly. Whether this was to test the air or to test him, Arthur was not sure. He clicked at the animal and called its name, the Chinese syllables becoming familiar, and the long-legged thing stopped within a few feet of the other man. One day he would tame that horse.

Titus watched the horses approach. The sound, while once familiar, was almost jolting to hear. His ears had readjusted to the island's sounds. The realization immediately soured his mood, but the small horse seemed to dispel it. He clicked his tongue and beckoned the small horse closer.

"He's feisty," Titus commented to the taller man beyond it in approval. He wasn't sure the man would understand him, though, with the words he'd just spoken.

The voice was immediately familiar and made Arthur halt in his stride, stumblel more than step beside Lorica, though he regained himself quickly, nearly as if nothing had happened. No, it could not be. He forced himself to remember the last man who had arrived to share Dagonet's face, his voice, his body. That Roman had been little like his knight. Dagonet would not play a game of not recognizing Arthur. But, it had been so very long since Arthur had been in the company of that knight -- of any of his men -- that even after fifteen years of life, death, battle, blood, sweat, drink shared together, he questioned his own memory ( ... )

Pullo's hand reached under the colt's muzzle and gave a gentle scratch.

So they did speak the same language. Titus' eyebrows rose in question, "Knight?" he asked.

It was the pale colours that suited her, the midnight hues of the purple dress that skirted her knobby made for dancing knees, as she stood in the shade, at the edge of the waterfall, dipping her toes in and making faces.

The star looked up and saw Pullo in the state that he was in, and she didn't even blush. Instead, she smiled.

"It's the right sort of cold."

Titus looked over, surprised a little that he wasn't alone as he'd thought. He smiled, though, when he saw who it was that had joined him. "What's the wrong sort?" he asked.

"Warm," Yvaine replied matter of factly, bobbing her toes up and down. It was quite simple, really.

Pullo laughed, because he hadn't expected a clever answer. "Wouldn't mind it being a little warmer. Are you going to have a swim?"

"I've found some leather," Wednesday told Pullo when she finally found him by the waterfall. "For my armor. It's blue. Will it still work?"

Titus blinked, then remembered what the girl was talking about. "Blue leather? Don't see why not. Did you get it off those monster men with this disgusting skin?"

"No, I got it from the monstrous clothing box," said Wednesday. "I think it was a skirt. There were monster men with disgusting skin?"

Apparently Wednesday had missed some of the best parts of Halloween.

"Couple of 'em, yeah," Titus answered, almost fondly. "Nasty lot. Lucius and I killed them."
