He may not like musicals, but Glinda has a vested interest in this one. Very vested. But she also knows she needs help, that she can't carry this on her own. It mitigated the stormy look on her face only slightly.
"I'm Glinda. I'm the creative director." It was an excellent title she thought, and if she was being a bit more determinified than usual, that was fine too.. "What would you like to know?"
Glinda. The creative director. Well, of course she is. Who else would be the creative director of a musical based on a story based on The Wizard of Oz?
"Right," he says, giving her a smile that's almost unforced. "You'd better tell me everything."
Glinda took a deep breath reminding herself this man was here to help. "Well. The flying apparatus for defying gravity has a few hitches still, and the costumes are mostly done. Maybe two thirds? I think that Glinda needs to work on a few things," Of course she did, why wouldn't she? "But the girl who's Elphie is very good. The sets... We still need to do must of the painting, and the chorus are a bit... loose. In the second half only, they've come together amazifyingly in the first." She was VERY defensive of the play, eying him carefully.
"You've got a flying apparatus?" says Geoffrey. Jesus, what the hell's he gotten himself into? "I've, uh, got someone who can take a look at that, actually. The last thing we need is somebody getting hurt. And the chorus, you said? What else?"
Kate is there because she is being supportive of Geoffrey. None of her motivation is linked to a profound sense of amusement at the idea of Geoffrey directing a musical. Especially after all the bitching he has done. It's really not funny at all that Mimi is sick, but still. It's Geoffrey. Directing a musical.
She settles down on the nearest log with a cold drink and watches the proceedings, grinning widely up at Geoffrey.
All of Jack's reasons for being here are motivated by his profound sense of amusement and he's wearing a very similar grin to Kate's when he sits down beside her. With the both of them looking at Geoffrey, he imagines it's a vaguely disturbing effect, but he also figures Geoffrey's professional enough to ignore them.
"We look like brats," he informs Kate in a low, amused voice, still wearing that grin.
"Shush," she whispers, doing a terrible job not looking completely amused. "Hey, look, I brought snacks," she says, pulling some sort of trail mix she made from cereal and nuts and things.
"Cool," Jack says, digging his fingers into it to take some from her, grinning a little. "You ever do a musical or anything? Like when you were in school?"
Maladicta wasn't thrilled, to be honest, about being in a musical. At least, this musical. At least, in the capacity she was involved. But she hadn't wanted to call to the director's attention that she didn't actually want to be in it because singing and dancing, at the same time, was silly because she liked Mimi and it wasn't exactly the cast of thousands she'd thought it was supposed to be.
Also, she'd somehow thought that forcing herself to do this and do it well would in some way be progress in her struggles to understand what it meant to be a human being and to be an actor, but at this point she wasn't so sure.
She'd been trained to dance and sing and she was exceptional at both, but no one had ever successfully taught her lessons about attitude. This wasn't to say no one had tried.
Geoffrey being in charge made things different. She could dance for Mimi, because the girl clearly loved dance, and she could even sing and she could even sing and dance for Mimi, goddammit, because she knew what healthy looking humans looked
( ... )
Geoffrey is ever-so-slightly out of his element here in the midst of a rehearsal for a musical, but only slightly. It has more similarities to what he does than he's generally willing to admit.
And it's a little known fact, much as it was a little known fact that Geoffrey used to work out, that Geoffrey can sing. So if he can sing, then Maladicta is certainly allowed to be a dancer.
Maladicta stopped in Perfect Fourth, then dropped her arms. The ability of her spine and limbs to go form ballerina posture to her typical default state of Lounge was uncanny.
"Yes," she said, "now let us never speak of it again."
"Geoffrey!" Lennox shouted, waving his arm a bit, trying to get his attention. He wasn't entirely sure of his role, to be honest, but that wasn't anyone's fault but his own. Mimi had done a great job so far, but the monkeys weren't exactly what he figured were important. Or maybe he was totally wrong, maybe he just needed some help.
"I'm a flying monkey," Lennox informed him, realizing only after he said it that it sounded sort of ridiculous. Well, he was counting on Geoffrey knowing the musical well enough to know exactly what he was talking about.
Satine's own worry rose at the mention of Mimi being ill, and she promised herself she would visit the other woman as soon as she was able. As soon as rehearsal was finished, at that. But for now she knew Mimi would want them to keep on with rehearsal, do the best they could to carry on.
"Come now, dear Geoffrey, surely it is not that bad?" Satine was delighted with both the production and her role, and yet it was still something to be taken as seriously as possible. Necessary, at that. She would do whatever she could to help.

"Hey Lennox," he says, wandering over while people organise themselves. "So you're a part of this too, are you?"
Of course Geoffrey already knows that, he's familiarised himself with not only the musical but the cast, but it's something to say.

"I'm sure your director has done a wonderful job so far," says Geoffrey instead.
