Claire walked in to get some water and looked at him, dripping chocolate and laughing.

"Are you all right?" she asked, grabbing a towel.

"She eats. Her teeth make it hard to chew," Claire said as she scowled at the chocolate that was everywhere. With a sharp shake of her head, she moved to the sink to get the towel wet.

"Anyhow, she's not eating spiders anymore, so that's good. And she's not starving, she's just, you know, different It's okay to be different. Right?"

"Oh, right," the Doctor, who hadn't considered that, said. "Yeah, that's good, not to eat spiders. And it's okay to be different as long as no one gets hurt."

"You're really big on not hurting people, huh?" she asked as she brought the wet cloth to his cheek again.

"Not innocent people," the Doctor said. "That's just wrong. Don't you think?" He bent down so she didn't have to reach so far.

Claire snorted. "I don't know if anybody's really innocent. That one book I read? It made it sound like if people weren't actively hurting people, they were complicent because they let it happen."

She pronounced it complikent, oblivious to her mistake.

"It's been happening to women ever since forever, I think it said."

"But not everyone lets it happen." The Doctor cocked a brow, then frowned at the 'women' comment. "That women were letting themselves be hurt?"

"That they wee the innocents, duh," she replied, scrubbing at his eyebrow. "How did you make such a mess? You look like it, like, exploded."

"It did, like, explode." The Doctor squinted and wiped up his face a little more. "What book was this?"

"The beige one with the red letters and Joan of Arc on the cover," she said, pulling him closer to get to his hairline. "I think you better just go take a shower. This isn't going to all come off."

"Okay," the Doctor said. He picked up the towels and the rest of the mess. "Claire?"

"Just be safe," he said. "And be smart. Don't get hurt."

There wasn't any way for her to look more angelic or innocent.

"I will, and I won't. I'm careful," she said with a smile that could give a person diabetes. "Go wash up, I'll tidy up your stuff for when you get back."

The Doctor believed that smile as far as he could throw it. And since one couldn't throw a smile...

He just looked at her. "Thanks," he said, meaning it. "But be more careful."
