Still, she wanted to congratulate him and meet her pseudo-niece, so the next morning she got up and went to the compound for a thermos of strong black coffee and some of the leftover biscuits from Wednesday night's dinner.
When she entered the clearing by the Redmans' house, she saw Stu holding a tiny bundle and singing to it. The image was just adorable, although she should probably not tell him she thought so.
"Mornin', Stu," she greeted him quietly, not wanting to wake the little one.

If he hadn't been so dog tire, he'd have been a little more hospitable, but that was about all he could manage.

She looked over at the little bundle in the crook of his arm and smiled.
"Now that's a beautiful baby," she pronounced, smiling at it softly.

It wasn't really a quesion, since he was already halfway passing Lydia off. A good cup of coffee and a biscuit would do wonders for perking him up.

"Done bakin, honey, but she's not gonna be much of interest to anyone for a while. She's sleepin' now. Come on up an' get a look," he drawled, nodding to the chair beside him. "She was just born a few hours ago and we're all kinda tuckered out."
