Humans, F has discovered, are obsessed with keeping clothes on her. Rather than have them make terrible whining noises and huge eyes at her, F has given into this demand too. She's capering around in soft shorts, rolled down on her skinny hips and the ruins of a white shirt ( Read more... )

Brian watched the girl curiously from a reasonable distance away. Not because he was concerned about her noticing him or thought of her as a threat, but because he wasn't exactly sure what to make of her.

She could have reminded him of various mental patients he'd known in various institutions, but her eyes were too focused and her movements too calculated. She wasn't lost in a world of her own making. She knew what she was doing even if her prey was only a well-fed and insignificant spider. Something told him spiders wouldn't satisfy her for long, but beyond that he had no idea what made her tick which only made him more interested in finding out.

F can feel his eyes.

At first, she thinks it is one of the Deros, come to ruin her fine adventure, but when she lolls her head to the side, it is only a human. He looks like he knows her. He looks like the man Masuoka did for the moments he understood her completely.

She watches him back, licking her thumb.

She had to be interested in blood which made Brian edge closer. It seemed like a long time since he'd told Dexter he felt that he had been born that day they had both been covered in their mother's blood and he still felt that to be true. As a result, he often needed blood or more accurately he liked to make things bleed.

Brian still kept a small distance between them, but if all she wanted was blood then she wasn't going to be a problem or a danger to him just yet. He moved his head to one side and offered her a small smile.

The man doesn't fear her.

He doesn't pity her, either, and for that F is interested. She drops to all fours and creeps towards him in a crawl much like the spider she's just eaten. At his feet, she looks up, up at him, and then slowly, with great care, stands up.

When Nick realized that he couldn't hold the girl, couldn't keep her, he let her go. He didn't think she even understood what he was saying, really, with the way that she just sat and stared. So it wasn't his most shining, professional moment when she slipped away and he didn't go after her, but it was a human moment.

He'd kept an eye out for her since she'd left, wanting to make sure she was okay. Today, he saw her just as she pinched the spider in between her fingers, and he barely stifled a little gasp when he saw what she did.

"Oh, honey," he said, softly approaching, "spiders aren't for eating."

What else is she supposed to do? She's so hungry and this place has confused all her hunting skills.

It took Masuoka so long to figure it out.

But since F can't sleep, she needs to eat.

She licks her lips, and offers him the gift of eye contact.

He looked at her, holding the eye contact for as long as she'd allow it. "I can get you a sandwich, if you want," he said, slowly lowering himself down to sit on the floor across from her. "Or some fruit." He sighed. "But not spiders."

He imagined the sensation of the legs crawling over his skin, going down his throat, and he shuddered.

He talks like he's tired. F doesn't care so much, but she does realize that he seems inclined to try and look after her.

So she thinks, thinks about what the other one liked, and finally creeps forward and butts her head against his knee.

River watched the girl she didn't know eat a spider with vague distaste, but more interest. She had been crazy herself, but she hadn't ever eaten an arachnid, as far as she could recall. No insects, either; it just didn't seem appealing. She was, however, very interested in people from different worlds, and she hadn't met anyone who seemed much like this girl at all.

"Hello," she said politely.

The humans in this place are so friendly.

It's very trying to F's system, when she is so very hungry. But she can't be sure they won't get angry and hurt her. The Deros have not returned for her yet, and F is starting to become confused.

She licks the blood from her thumb and watches the girl. Says nothing.

She wanted to explain herself, tell this girl that she had done lots of things that didn't make any sense to anyone else, but had made sense to her own mind. But she didn't. Seemed like it might be easier to demonstrate.

River stared back. She could play this game with the best of them.

F doesn't really meet her eyes on purpose. It's all coincidental, because she's not really looking anywhere at all.

Her legs get tired and she sits down. This human is silent and watchful, but F doesn't perceive intent to attack.

Make no mistake, Klaus Baudelaire had seen a lot of horrific things in his very-nearly fifteen years. But that was perhaps one of the most instinctively disgusting. From his place seated at a table not far away, he peered at the dark haired girl from over his book and wrinkled his nose.

Disgust is not fear. Fear tastes the best, but F is a steady little pilgrim and will make do with what she gets.

This human is not full grown. Big enough to prey on, but maybe small enough to bring down.

She drops to the ground and begins to creep over.

Did she think that Klaus couldn't see her? She was only obviously coming his way, and it was all that he could do to not pull up his feet as she approached. There was definitely something wrong with this girl, and the way she moved made him nervous. The irony that he should be made nervous by any girl given who he lived with escaped him.

Oh, F knows he can see her.

It's just that her body has lost almost all of the way of standing and walking like humans. Her muscles tire of it quickly and then she creeps along like she would in the tunnels.

She stands back up when she reaches him, though, and licks her thumb. She's almost watching him.

Maladicta was tense and worn with recent events, and thoughtful, always bloody thoughtful and she was in dire need of a distraction. She headed for the rec room in hopes of the bookshelf providing such a thing.

It didn't.

This did not mean she went undistracted.

She stood completely and utterly still, the way a deer stands still when its listening in the woods for safety, for the sign of a disturbance, and stared at the creature standing at the window.

Me too? she thought, because it would fucking figure that William's crazy would be contagious. She didn't know what to say for a moment, merely watching the girls tongue against the blood and, more telling still, the flash of her teeth behind her lips and fingers, and finally said, "What are you doing here."

F is instinctively pleased to see someone who knows what she is. This human is so much prettier than the snarling snapping Deros. She is an alpha female, and F is docile when she needs to be.

She hits the ground, pale face pressing into the rough carpet with its strange chemical human smells, her back slanting up like a puppy at play.

Maladicta didn't recoil because she'd dealt with worse. She hoped. But her insides did- shuddered and crawled, her skin tingled with the fervent need to be away from this creature.

It was a kind of vampire. But not her kind. That didn't mean they weren't from the same place, though, ultimately.

"Stop that," she hissed, "I'm not your sire and I'm not your brood. Don't- this isn't the world for that."

Why is this one angry with her?

F sits up, regarding her with eyes that were blank, but at least somewhat focused. She licks her lips, hinting at the teeth underneath, and sits still.

She's not sure what it wants, and she doesn't want to upset it.
