Even after being on the island for a ridiculous long time --he knew the exact number of the days, but he tried not to think about it-- Aiden still wasn't able to resign himself to being there forever. For one thing, the idea made him sort of physically ill ( Read more... )

"Wow, this show really is always on," Wilson commented as he walked into the rec room and noticed somebody watching Law and Order. It was sort of the last thing he expected, this little slice of home with its predictible plots. "I used to watch it sometimes with a friend who always figured out the mystery before the cops. Mind if I watch?" The guy wasn't somebody he knew, but the stranger didn't look off-putting, and it might be like watching proper TV.

"Feel free," Ford offered, munching on a handful of nuts as the opening credits finally ended. This was nice. Almost normal.

Wilson sat down in a chair and sipped at his smoothie, which was a decent substitute for lunch. "Huh, no commercials. That's weird," he said. "Never thought I'd miss TV commercials. It's funny how that happens."

Detectives Finn and Munch bantered on the screen and Wilson laughed a little. "You ever wonder if those guys are going to show up here? Seems like there are a lot of people from different places. Don't know why a couple of SVU detectives from New York wouldn't fit in." And then he realized he hadn't introduced himself. "I'm James Wilson, from New Jersey."

"That would be cool. Weird for them though. Half of the island would know who they were." Ford wondered what that would be like and wasn't sure he wanted to ever experience it firsthand. Being fictional would just be too creepy. "I'm Aiden Ford." He left the Atlantis part out. "Nice to meet you."

Teyla had been trying to avoid the rec room ever since she'd seen herself and the others on the screen. She did tend to peek in, and when she saw Aiden she decided to chance it. "Good day Aiden."

Ford wasn't sure how often or not Teyla came into the rec room, but he figured she knew her way around most of the Compound by now. "Hey, Teyla."

Teyla looked at the screen and then back towards Aiden. "What is this thing you are watching?"

"A show about people on Earth solving crime in the city of New York where... uh... Certain types are considered to be particularly heinous?"

Maybe Law & Order: SVU had been a bad choice. he wasn't sure this was the sort of thing he ought to be introducing Teyla to.

"Wow," Angela murmured in wonder as she strolled into the rec room. "Even on a mysterious, desert island, I still can't get away from that show." Despite her words though, she was smirking happily, glancing from the screen to the guy watching. "Hey," she said, giving him a warm smile. "Sorry. I'll shut up and let you enjoy your show now."

"Hey. It's okay," Ford assured her. It was any other show, he might have wanted some peace and quiet, but this was only Law & Order. "I can turn this off if you want."

"Nyah," Angela said with a smile. She pulled down a nice, large hardcover book and turned around to look at the screen again. "It's kind of nice. Reminds me of home, in a way? The things we don't have here."

"It's strange to find TV comforting. I never really did before," Aiden admitted.

He'd always liked TV, of course, mostly sit-coms or random game shows he occasionally sat through with his grandparents. But he hadn't ever thought he'd spend most of his time searching for cannisters with old episodes.
