Folks all rounded up and all that commotion dying down just a bit, Bill had 'bout the first time in a week to relax. Now, it weren't that he wasn't used to work, 'cause bein' sheriff a lotta times meant long hours and a hell of a lotta responsibility, but space aliens aside, Wheelsy was generally considered a pretty sleepy sorta town ( Read more... )

It's not often that Tim walks far north enough to wander by the docks. But today, for whatever reason, he does, hands deep in his pockets and flip-flops kicking up sand as he walks. He squints into the sunlight, looking over the ocean and then down the beach and further. He can see a figure on the end of the dock, just sitting and he watches as he gets closer.

After awhile, he realizes what the guy's doing and a grin twists his lips. It's been months since he'd fished last, but it's not something he figures he can forget how to do.

He makes his way across the dock, slow enough that he's pretty sure the guy'll notice him long before he actually gets there. But, he still makes his presence known as he gets closer. "Hey," he says, a slight grin twisting his lips as he motions down at the spare rod. "Savin' that for anyone?"

Rod held loose 'tween his fingers, his eyes, that had been watching the line, were startin' to glass over, goin' into that fishin' trance that somehow manages to make 6 hours on a borin' old fishin' boat fly by in a pleasant sorta haze. That, and a case a beer sure helps, but he's gotta make do.

Squintin' up at the guy, not much more than a kid, Bill shakes his head, the corner of his own lips twisting, "Nope. Help yourself."

Without another word, Tim kicks off his flip-flops and sits, legs dangling over the edge of the dock, a quiet satisfied groan falling past his lips as he gets comfortable. He reaches behind him to pick the rod, balancing the but of it between his legs as he takes a hook.

The movements come easy, slow, but practiced. Comfortable. It's like everytime he'd ever gone out with Billy or Jay or just by himself. If you ignore that it's salt water and a stranger. It's still comfortable, though.

He doesn't say anything for a long time, his line in the water, being pulled by the light waves. The water's not nearly calm enough to really get anything and somehow Tim doubts there's any good bass out here. Or any bass at all. But, he's never really gone fishing to actually get fish. That's not the point.

"You been out here long?" he asks after a while, peering over.

Shieldin' his eyes, Bill looked up at the sky. "Reckon so. Not expectin' to catch nothin'. These rods ain't really right for this type of fishin'." The inlet provided a little shelter from the waves, but he hadn't really been able to get a good cast off the reel. "Figure they do most've their big catches with nets," he said, nodding over to the collection of boats bobbing in the water.

River liked the boats. Since being attacked by a giant squid she was more than a little bit wary of the open water, but she still liked the dock, because that was where the boats lived.

She and her funny looking dog were out for a walk, and stopped because it would just be rude not to.

She knew this man was not Mal, for all that he looked and sounded just like him, but she thought he seemed nice enough on his own.

"Hello, Bill Pardy," she greeted him cheerfully.

Squintin' against the glare, Bill turned to look at her over his shoulder, offerin' up an easy smile at the familiar face.

"'Lo there, River. How ya been?"

"I'm just fine, thanks. I can see you managed to avoid the worst of the dinosaurs, but how are you settling otherwise?"

Simon Chicago was not so polite. The dog was clearly intrigued by someone who sounded and looked like the Captain he knew, but did not smell like him at all; he was sniffing at him without reservation or manners.

"Got myself a hut. Place on the IPD. Doin' alright for myself," he said, reaching out to scratch behind the ears of the face that was nudging persistently at his side, "Now who's this?"
