Whatever Veronica Mars has been expecting when she'd charged head first into the jungle with Neil, she hadn't exactly gotten it. Somewhere on the surface had been the desire to save George, whatever that meant, and make sure her friend was okay, sure. But if she had hoped to soothe her restlessness or find she'd fallen back into whoever she'd once ( Read more... )

Sam wasn't exactly in a happy mood. And he definitely wasn't about to be cheerful, so when he found Veronica in the kitchen, he was standing at his full height, arms crossed over his chest. "Hi," he said, very sharply. "So, you know that thing where people don't just go running off on search and rescue without checking with their significant other for, oh, I dunno, a weapon?"

Yeah. He might have been a little pissed.

"Honey, I'm home," Veronica singsonged, looking up with a hopeful little smile. It might have been - okay, it was a little forced, her shoulders shrugging up, then falling as she leaned back again. "I know that thing. I just also know this thing where George was about to be dinobait and you were already off doing your own Indiana Jones thing." Him and Dean. "Besides, we had Roxy with us and she was armed." She genuinely didn't see the big deal.

Sam was just staring at her, completely torn and there was a hurt puppy look on his face. "Veronica, I'm here. You could've joined with me and Dean, we had extra weapons." And that way, he could make sure nothing had happened. "You just went off!"

"I didn't know." Veronica sat up straighter, head tilting. "Honestly, Sam, I had no idea I was going out there." She waved a hand, pressing it briefly to her forehead, then shaking her head as it fell. "I was just looking to make sure the people I cared about were still here, and I wasn't about to leave George to be dinobait." She didn't even think she would have joined them if she'd known, though; better to go off with her dad or Vimes than join a brotherly bonding trip. Working with Roxy and Neil was more comfortable.

Jim had been fairly clueless about who willfully disappeared and who disappeared because of the island, so all the people missing meshed together into one big worry. It wasn't like he could go running off to check every few hours like he could the last time; the baby neared caring for, and he wasn't going to leave Pam alone with the job when she was just as worried and stressed out as he was ( ... )

"Mmn," Veronica agreed, sitting up slowly and slumping forward. "What do I need with a neck? Hey, Samantha..." Smiling, she edged off the seat and perched on the table. Being drowsy left her quiet - not gentle, just sleepy with the appearance of it, watching the baby start to drift off. She was tired and scratched up, but alright aside from that and she looked it. Mostly it had just been a long hike back.

"You look like you had a long weekend," he commented, getting a better view now that she was facing him. She didn't look bad, but that didn't mean she wasn't hurt. "Pam and I were...worried."

It was a gross understatement.

Veronica just shrugged. Waiting around would have made for a longer weekend. "You know me," she said. "Party, party, party. Killer hangover, couldn't make it to class yesterday. I figure Lupin'd understand." She gave him a wry half-smile. "I didn't mean to make you worry."

Even now, Isolde was not a fan of the compound, less now than she had been now that she doubted that it would keep standing if the world shook and everything fell to earth, dark and what not, but food was there. This was something that was greatly important to her, especially now.

Thus with a fairly apprehensive sense of prowling about her, she made her way into the kitchen, smiling as saw Veronica falling asleep in a chair. "Careful now, ye'll hurt yerself as your head hits the table."

"Is that what happens when your head hits something?" Veronica asked, eyes opening and turning toward Isolde, the only part of her that much moved. "Huh. Never knew that." She smiled a little, slowly leaning forward, elbows against the table. "No adventures in dino land for you?"

"Twould be exactly," Isolde answered with a nod and a bit of a laugh as she made her way over to the fridge and pulled out the nearest thing that seemed slightly appealing. "Oh gods no, I think that the boy would up and die if I even suggested it. What about ye? Did you go off and tramping in there?"

Veronica threw up her hands, showing off her small collections of cuts and bruises with weary pride. "Just a wee one," she said, watching Isolde. She smiled. "The boy'll probably kill me when he sees me."

"Veronica?" Padme's voice was quiet, careful not to wake or interrupt if her friend was already asleep. She figured that it could be worse even if she did wake her, since she'd talk to her about finding a bed - or if it was all that too far to walk, she was sure that she could use Padme and Jay's bed.

She'd come to the kitchen to grab something to eat, her hair pulled back into a low ponytail, and almost contemporary in a long shirt and capri pants. Now that Sola was even slightly mobile, this made it... easier.

Blinking quickly at the sound of her name, Veronica shook off the half-sleep. She turned her head a little to see who had spoken and smiled. "Padme, hey," she said, too much at ease with her to force herself to be more alert. She slumped lazily forward, leaning against the table. "And what brings you to our lovely kitchen?"

"Food, really. What brings you? Besides sleeping on tables." She smiled, and her head tilted. "You really should try and get some sleep," she said gently. "Are you hungry?"

There was an odd sort of mothering when it came to Veronica; not like a daughter, but the kind of friend that you want to desperately take care of.

"I slept all day," Veronica assured her, waving a hand dismissively. "I'm good." She wasn't about to tell Padme where she'd been if she didn't already know, not wanting to make her worry even after the fact. "Is there anything good? I could maybe use a little something."
