When Arthur rushed into the kitchen at the sound of the scream, a part of him wondered in idle thought why it was that people who looked as if they should be dead were making a habit of appearing on the tables. Perhaps it was part of their enchantments? Whatever the reason, it did not matter now, as the woman was distressed, hysteric perhaps, and needed aide.
"Lady," he said calmly, hands raised just slightly, palms facing her in a placating, peaceful gesture. "Lady, I mean you no harm. Will you let me help you?"
"There's nothing you can do for her now," Arthur informed her gravely, not taking his eyes away from her. He was sympathetic, but that was the truth of the matter.
"She is there, and you are here, and there is no way to control your return."
A tear rolls down Beth's cheek, leaving a pale trail in all of that blood. You do everything you can, to keep your friend from feeling any more pain. You do everything you can, and you still end up leaving her in the dark.
Arthur hesitated for only a moment, not sure how to word what he felt the need to say. "It is.. a strange sort of magic," he said with some difficultly, then continued on. "The world you left is somehow separate from this. Things carry on in the place you left as they should. Your friend will not notice your absence, because to her, you are still there. You are still there with her while you are still here in this room."
Relief washed over him as she acquiesced, though none of this showed on his face. Arthur simply nodded, a degree of softness to his expression as he offered her his hand.

"She..." Beth drops her head. "I asked her not to leave me. They made such a horrible...fucking...noise."

He paused, looking her over once more. His nose did not wrinkle at the smell, but she was filthy. "Come," he said. "You should bathe, please."

"Okay," she says, her voice broken, a little like a child. "Alright."

"You will feel better for it," he assured her.
