The sun wasn't due to come up for 'bout another hour, and without the dim glow of electricity, jungle seemed even darker than usual. Bill stood in the middle of the clearing, flashlight in his hand, shinin' out over the small crowd gathered outside the Compound doors. There was the faint murmur of hushed voices, few of 'em speakin' up louder than ( Read more... )

Chris had spent most of the day before out searching, the gun Teyla'd given him to use strapped heavily to his thigh. So far, he hadn't touched it or even come close to touching it and for that he was mostly grateful.

He'd gotten very little sleep the night before, but he felt awake, hopped up on adrenaline and fear that was threatening to escalate into panic at any moment. Standing at the edge of the small crowd, Chris crossed his arms over his chest and listened to the man he'd only very recently met. Bill Party. Something like that.

After a moment, he took a shaky breath and dropped his arms, the fingers of one hand brushing over the holster on his leg. Somehow that made him relieved and even more anxious at the same time.

Walking through the crowd, notebook in hand, Bill stopped in front of one of the most anxious lookin' fellas he'd ever seen. Had that zombie look to 'im. Didn't have to speak a word for Bill to know he had somebody he loved out there.

"Hope you know how t' use that," Bill said, eyes dartin' down to the gun seated on the fella's hip.

Following Bill's eyes, Chris glanced down, his fingers skating over the cold steel before he pulled his hand away again.

"Not really," he admitted with no little amount of sheepishness that he tried to chase away with a quick flash of a smile. "I was kind of given it the other day." Though, he knows it's only for this and he'll be far too happy to give it back to her when this is all through. If it ever is all through.

Bill sighed, pinchin' the bridge of his nose then droppin' his hand to grab a pen outta his utility belt.

"Keep it in the holster. You can't, just try not to shoot anybody in the damn foot, 'r anyplace that don't grow back," Bill said with a ghost of a smile, but right now was all business, "What's your name, fella?"

Bill had nearly fallen out of his tree yesterday morning when the quake thinger had hit, and had made his way immediately to the compound after checking on Remus and Tonks to find out what the fuck was going on.

People disappearing and reappearing in dino territory, again. Bill had shown up on the island in dino territory, and wasn't exactly eager to head there again, but after a full day of doing fuck all he was not about to sit around again today. He'd never been the type to stay away when help was needed.

So there he was, bowie knife at his waist and throwing knife strapped to his bicep as usual, ready to set out with Bill Pardy's rescue group. He'd also taken Sirius' bow and arrows from Remus, as he'd had quite a bit of practise with them and had got rather good, and so the quiver was slung over his shoulders to hang across his back and he gripped the bow in one hand. He was ready.

Teyla listened to the man, nodding carefully. He sounded as if he knew what he was sapeaking of, that he had perhaps mounted military missions before. It encouraged her and she set about re-checking her P-90 and extra ammunition while she waited.

"You look like you done this before," Bill said, walkin' up and eying her weapon with interest, and somethin' like envy.

"Many times. Too many." It was true, there were too many rescue missions, too many friends and companions lost. "I had hoped I would not need to again, but thre seems little choice." Safetying her gun she let it hang from it's shoulder strap, inclining her head towards the man, "I am Teyla, daughter of Tagan."

"Chief Bill Pardy," he said, extendin' his hand to her, "Been on my share. Nothin' quite like this, though."

Neil arrived ready to search, down one beaver and carrying a shovel, which was probably for the best. It wasn't everyday that earthquakes and blackouts and Curlers Went Missing (at least for things that weren't drugs or running away) and he listened to the guy talk and was ready for...nearly anything.

Preparation was marginal, but the effort had to count. At least he figured it did as he shifted the shovel from hand to hand. In all this crazy, dino and friend-rescuing it was good to know that someone knew what to do. Kind of at least.

"That's a new one," Bill said, catching sight of the shovel and cocking his head to the side with a quick flash of a smile. "Guess I don't need to ask if you know how to handle that thing."

Shovel was a helluva lot better than him toting around a firearm he couldn't handle.

"No you don't," Neil agreed with a firm nod and a fair smile. This whole thing was sort of against his nature, but he wasn't going to just sit by.

"Been using a shovel for a long time now. This'll be a first though."

"Think this is a first for a lot of us," Bill said with a short breath of laughter, lookin' at all the scared faces gathered 'round and movin' in and outta the dark Compound, "You mind if I get your name?"

Once he knew that Lily and Emmy were safe and sound in the compound (which was a lot safer and sounder now that the lights were back on), Eddie got himself a kitchen knife and some rope and headed out with Chris and Neil to find Lennox. And Gordon, too, even if Chris wasn't going to admit it.

"Eddie, hey," Jack calls when he sees him, hurrying along to where he's heard the search team is gathering. Kate's gone and there's no way in hell he's just going to sit around and wait for someone else to find her. Right now, he figures it's better to head out in a group.

"Are you going out there?" he asks. "Chris is here too, huh? I'm coming." Just like that. And he's not sure why he's telling Eddie, but he figures he has to tell someone.

"Chris and Neil are here," said Eddie, trying to figure out where to put the knife. It wasn't much, but at least it was something. "Chris has got a gun, so don't get too close to him."

Jack almost laughs at that, but it gets stuck and the sound he makes is more of a cough than anything. He can't laugh now. Not when Kate's out there. "Emmy and Lily are okay?" he asks.
