It simply could not be put off any longer. While Anne could and had been altering the clothing she already owned, the fact was that there were only so many seams she could let out before there wasn't any fabric left to accommodate her. Two weeks ago she had only been showing if you knew her intimately enough and knew precisely what to look for.

"That was sexy, Anne, you should fuckin' wear it," Joe announced as he headed toward the washing machine, opening the lid and pulling out his wet clothes. "Seriously, that's the sort of shit I hear makes mermaids go crazy."

He hadn't heard that, of course, but he was pretty sure that there was no one on the island who was more fun to tease than Anne.

"Until I see it, I won't believe it," Joe said simply, still grinning as he settled the last shirt on the pile. "Bet Ariel wouldn't think so anyway."

"Well, let's see if I can't arrange it so that we never have to discover whether she would or she wouldn't," said Anne, "for I would hate to put her in a position where she felt obligated to say something was attractive when it was just plain awful."

"She'd probably feel more obligated to say it than me," Joe agreed with a nod, finding another dress-like thing in a light pink that he handed to Anne. "Apparently the box thinks I should be wearing this fucking things."

"Well, as long as it's giving one of us some decent clothing, I'll long complain," said Anne. "Just keep reaching in and see what it gives you, Joe."

Joe grinned brightly at that and stuck his arm into the box again, tugging out a bright pink t-shirt with the words 'SEXY' emblazoned across the front in glitter.

"Yeah?" he asked, offering it to her with a cheeky smile.

"Oh, I couldn't possibly wear that," insisted Anne. Though perhaps she could give it to Ariel....

"I bet you'd be able to give half the island a fucking heart attack if you wore it," Joe insisted, still grinning. "Be worth it just to see their faces."
