Jeroen was bored. He kicked at a book on the floor, where he'd discarded it. It wasn't anything interesting anyway, just another book he didn't know enough English to read. He kicked at it again, a little more viciously, then pulled his foot back at Walt moved to investigate the book ( Read more... )

Ianto didn't have much of anything to do either. However, he wasn't sighed about it. He wandered into the rec room, wearing a waistcoat and tie for no particular reason, the shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a cup of coffee in hand. Noticing the book on the floor, Ianto bent to pick it up, smiling lightly at the boy and his dog.

"Hello," he greeted. "Nice dog."

Jeroen looked up at the voice. It was unfamiliar, but he'd been getting better at dealing with unfamiliar, so he smiled at the man. "Hallo," he said, then after quickly translating in his head, "thank you."

Hearing the accent in the boy's words, Ianto paused as he put away the book, glancing over at him. "Are you from the Netherlands?" he asked, managing the question in Dutch easily enough.

Jeroen's polite smile widened, growing considerably warmer. "Ja," he said brightly. There were people who spoke Dutch on the island, but never enough, really.

Belize walked into the room and saw a very young boy and a very small dog.

Looking at the boy apprehensively, Belize inched forward.

"Are you lost?" He asked with concern. He knew the little boy wouldn't be here by himself. Surely, his parents had left him or are missing.

"Do you need me to help you find someone?" Belize looked around the room to see if he could spot any parent-types. None were in sight.

Jeroen looked up at the voice, almost proud that he'd caught nearly every word. "Not lost," he said with authority. He hadn't been in months.

Belize smiled. The little boy was foreign.

"Oh." He said, approaching him a slow step at a time. "You're here alone?"

"Not alone," Jeroen said, looking down at the dog in his lap. "Walt."

"Hey kid," Logan said as he wandered over to the bookshelf, giving Jeroen and Walt a look over and offering a smile.

"What's wrong with you? Someone kick your puppy?"

Jeroen clutched Walt slightly to his chest, not amused by the question, before he let out another long sigh, this time entirely for Logan's benefit. "Bored," he told him.

"Bored?" Logan laughed, grabbing a book off the shelf and moving to sit beside Jeroen. "You could go play with some of the other kids," he suggested.

"Maybe even play with some of the girls," he teased, giving Jeroen a playful nudge, knowing exactly what the boy's reaction to the mention of girls would be.

Jeroen wrinkled his nose at that. He liked Samara, but other than that, he avoided girls around his age. "Bored," he said again, firmly.

You could hear Peter coming before you saw him. Or, rather, you heard the steady thump of a rubber ball hitting the ground over and over as he walks along. He'd wanted to wear shoes with the wheels on them (which are really much easier to call rollerskates) but they didn't fit him. So instead he had a ball.

When he saw Jeroen, he tossed the ball to him. "Catch!"

Jeroen threw up his hands in time to catch and fumble the ball. It landed lightly on Walt's back, and Walt jumped off of Jeroen's lap, moving to snuffle at Peter's feet.

Peter scritched Walt's ears then stooped down to scoop up the superball before bouncing onto the seat next to Jeroen.

"Hi," he said, tossing the ball between his hands idly.

"Hi," Jeroen said, grinning when Walt jumped back up onto the couch to sprawl in their laps.
