Squints: the other doctor.

Jun 29, 2007 18:08

This had never really been Temperance Brennan's thing.

When there were meetings to be held, there was someone else to do it. Goodman, for one. Or at larger digs, there was usually some coordinator who translated her findings and directions for the scientifically disinclined. Teaching was different. Students didn't come to be carefully ( Read more... )

Abby stood up after Dr. Brennan had finished talking and introduced herself. "Hi. As Dr. Brennan said, I'm Abby Sciuto, and before I was magically catapulted to a wacky island, I was a forensic specialist for the United States Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which is a mouthful, so we just say NCIS ( ... )

Kurama had almost not come since he figured that he had done most of what was in his abilities. Now, he was glad he had decided that maybe he should check it out anyway. He stood. "I still have some notes on the plants I found, and on some of the changes that took place when we had the snow. I will be glad to offer them and any information I might have that might be useful." He sat back down wondering if his chemistry book still might be of use as well.

Abby smiled at Kurama, whom she hadn't really seen around very much.

"That will definitely be useful. As we all know, I am not a plant person. I just pretend to be for the purposes of the island."

He smiled. "I am not able to do what I once was, but I think the plants here can still be quite useful." And if the weather changed again they should definitely have some way to do comparisons.

Getting to her feet after listening to a few people, Jill smiled a bit and said, "I'm Jill Langston and at the moment, unfortunately, I don't have any real projects on the go. For those of you who know Carson, I spent a significant amount of time helping him with his research on the doubles on the island, but since then it's been a little... slow." And on the word 'doubles', she only glanced briefly at David, barely managing to not use the word 'clones'. "So if anyone has anything they need a hand on..."

At this point, she'd be willing to assist with almost any project. "I'm a virologist, back home I specialized in the Spanish Flu and I did significant work on juvenile diabetes, which, as far as I can tell, isn't a problem on the island so far, but we may eventually need someone to look into it. If anyone at any point needs some help on things of that nature, I'm around."

Once a few people had stepped forward, the Doctor did the same. "Hello," he greeted. "I'm the Doctor." He frowned. "Not to be confused with the Time Lord of the same name ( ... )

Temperance sat up a little bit straighter. This one, she'd have to track down later and interview at length. "I'm sure if you put out a notice, there would be at least one or two people who know how to mine out the obsidian."

Her heart hurt all over again for Hodgins, who could have done it so easily. "And if not, I had a colleague here who knew a great deal about geology. I might able to help a little."

He smiled, a little pleased that there would be people to help him. Obsidian had always had something of a stigma attached to it; people viewed it as going backwards instead of making progress. It was a shame, really. It was much better suited than any of its metallic counterparts.

"I'll make a notice right away," he said, grateful for the suggestion. It was odd doing everything with paper and ink. It was something he'd long associated with playing pretend in the holodeck, but the bulletin board did have its purposes. It was how he'd found out about this meeting after all.

Dairine slipped in, a little awkward. Spot scuttled behind her on his spidery little legs. "Is it okay if I'm here? I'm not a professional scientist, or anything...more of a hacker. I guess some of you know Spot here and I did some of the security on your computers."

"Go ahead and sit down," said Grissom, motioning her further inside and gesturing towards an empty seat. "After all, science and art belong to the whole world, and before them vanish the barriers of nationality. Or, as it were, profession."

And he never got tired of imposing quotes on young people.

Dairine grins at him. "Goethe," she says, plunking into the seat. "Nice." Spot scurries over, chirping a quick hello before Dairine scoops him up onto her lap.

Bob's never been comfortable speaking in front of people, not even colleagues, people of like mind and ideas. At NorBAC it hadn't been so difficult since he'd always had David there and David tended to do much of the talking for him ( ... )

Kurama also felt that his notes might be useful to this man. "I have notes that will be probably be something that should go into a general database." He didn't know if they had his updated notes since he hadn't spoken to any of the scientists in a while.

It's a voice he doesn't recognize and Bob glances over at the source very briefly before nodding.

"That would be helpful," he agrees and tries his best to give a smile. It looks awkward and nervous and it's all too brief, his hands still fidgeting. "Thank you."

Kurama grinned. "You are welcome. I believe some of my notes are in the lab already, but I will bring any new findings there for everyone to use. Hopefully they will be of some help."
