"Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner,
sometimes I feel like my only friend is the city I live in,
the city of angels.
Lonely as I am, together we cry...The song might have been a little melancholy, but the guy singing it wasn't. He'd picked it, actually, for the mellow intensity, and because hell, he just felt like it ( Read more... )

Chase had heard the music playing and he'd know Jay anywhere, so he found his way down to the sound of the guitar, still keeping covered up as he found Jay. "My little songbird," he mocked wryly.

"For the very last time," Chase sighed, troubled and tired. "I am not a girl, Joshua."

Looking like the scolded kid, Jay sighed too. "Okay, okay. Tell me about things for you, then."

Chase just shrugged, giving Jay a look. "Nothing you haven't already heard, don't think," he admitted. "I met your sister while she was naked...I gave her my shirt, I went monogamous with the Doctor and then we moved in."

"And that's it? Have you actually had a quiet time?" Jay grinned at him. "I'll be damned."

"It's actually been a quiet time," Chase confirmed, looking for pigs in the sky, like that actually might happen. "Been monogamous with absolutely no desire to get out. And god...I..." He gestured, to say 'you know'.

"Lookit you," Jay observed. "You're happy." He poked him in the ribs. "It's about time."

"Hey!" Chase protested, flinching away. "I've been happy for a long time now," he insisted, and it was true.

"See, now that's good," said Jay. "Especially when you get into head-shrinking. Maybe you can analyze why I think you're a girl."

"Because you're trying so damn hard to believe you didn't bend to the other side," Chase half-teased, but was mostly serious.

Jay took it in pretty decent stride. "Yeah, okay, but how about the part where it's really fun, too?"

That got a grin out of Chase. "Please," he drawled, a bit smugly. "Only when it's with me."

He held up a hand solemnly. "I swear upon my daddy's grave that I will only take pleasure out of calling Robert Chase a woman and no one else. Amen."

Chase just settled, giving Jay a bemused look as he lay down on his back. "So," he asked curiously. "How'd you know it was Padme. The one."

It wasn't really for himself, except he wanted to know if he was replaced so easily.

"Easy," said Jay. "I stopped believing there was such a thing." His fingers automatically began to find placement on the strings, just as nervous habit. "That was what got me into trouble with Julia. Believing in the one... I mean, what happens when you lose 'em? Are you supposed to be unhappy forever? And what does that mean for everyone else you've been with?"

Jay shrugged. "There's no such thing as one absolutely right person. But I do believe in finding someone, and they're right for you in a lot of ways, and you get to that place where you wanna be with them forever."

"Forever, huh?" he teased Jay, but only mildly, poking him in the stomach from where he was lying. "Why, Jay, I think you're a romantic."
