Theon Greyjoy wasn't spoiling for a fight. In fact, he appeared to be trawling for a good time as he considered the fattest tree trunk near the compound ( Read more... )

Sansa associates the sound of a knife on wood with Arya now and if her sisters habits no longer bothers her as they once did, she'd never admit it. She doesn't think it's Arya here though though she did not expect Theon. He'd been kind when last they spoke (somewhat unexpectedly so) and so she smiles at him., keeping out of range of where he throws. "Keeping busy?" she asks.

Ah yes, Theon remembered very well how he'd felt when they last spoke. It wasn't a feeling he was sure he would ever genuinely feel again, but it certainly hadn't brought him harm.

Returning the smile, Theon flicked his wrist and inclined his head at his former foster sister, not bothering to watch the dagger hit home. "Something like that, yes," he eyed her belly and then her lips. "How is it that you always look well, Sansa?"

Sansa recalled he had noticed last time which meant she didn't have to tell him. This meant she realised annoyed that Theon paid more attention to her than the Hound did, she didn't want to think on what that meant.

"I take good care," she said, "and follow the advice of the doctors." Besides Sansa takes care over her looks and knows how to play her part. Hiding back ache and queasiness is somewhat easier than hiding bruises.

"And it is good advice," he began while heading to retrieve his dagger, "For it has only made you look more radiant, my lady." Theon's smile deepened into something sly, a familiar quirk of his mouth that had been entirely absent when they'd last met.

Rolling the blade across his knuckles, he considered her where he stood. "Is there anything I might help you with?"

Shadow and Honour were bored and mischievous. Susan was working in her garden and didn't want to play, so they went off on their own.

As they wandered off into the jungle, Honour took off at a trot, and Shadow had to scurry to keep up with him. He was a little bigger than she was, and her legs were shorter. He also had a good idea where he was going, and Shadow did not. They came up on a man throwing a knife at a tree. Shadow did not know the man and hung back warily, but Honour bounded right up to him, wagging his tail cheerfully.

A strip of bark fell away when Theon yanked the blade from the trunk, but he was far too busy being confused and mildly alarmed at the sight of Honour to care much for the state of the environment.

"Hm," he quirked his brow and quickly glanced around. Theon was hardly in a mood to play nice with Jon's woman, much less Robb. Blinking, the kraken took one step back and peered suspiciously at both pups. "You're not lost, are you? No, you lot are too clever... and evil enough for an ambush," he grumped while crouching down and plucking up a twig. "Go on, get," he shooed, launching the stick at the trees.

Shadow sniffed and looked suspicious, not moving from her spot, but Honour bounded after the stick, catching it up in his jaws and worrying it ferociously before trotting back to Theon and dropping it at his feet. He was quite pleased with himself for chewing the stick into submission.

Theon had turned around with every intention of ignoring the beasts until they left him be, but it seemed he would not be so lucky.

Dismayed and wary, the kraken peered down at the pup and the stick at his feet. "What do you want of me?" he fixed Honour with an accusatory look even as he found himself crouching once more to toss the stick in the other direction.

Mac didn't recognize a lot of what on on the island sometimes, but this was recognizable, even in its crudest form. She'd been heading out, thinking of going down to the beach again, but she stopped when she saw the man. "Knives, huh," she said, in lieu of an introduction.

"Indeed," Theon said, flipping the dagger into the air and snatching it back by its handle before glancing at the girl.

Well now, she had a certain look about her that could prove interesting; not terribly beautiful but sweet, soft. He clearly approved, smiling his interest and quirking a brow. "Would you like to have a go?"

"I doubt it would go well if I did," Mac said, eyeing the dagger. "Someone would probably lose an eye."

Theon chuckled faintly and shook his head, beckoning her forward with a quirk of two fingers. "I'll make certain your eyes remain in tact. Come, I'll show you how it's done."

I've spent plenty of time in bars watchin' guys throw darts. Leaning against a grimy wall in some fucking hellhole of a bar, casual and loose-limbed and on the prowl. Never took much. A glance or a well timed shift of the hips, and they'd forget all 'bout those darts and their beer and whatever else was clutterin' their mind.

Even after all this time it's hard to shake it, slipping into that role, and I still find myself doin' it every once and a while. It gets easier, and I'd still rather just forget that whole fucking chunk of my life... Even though I know it'll never happen.

But this is different. For one, the knives are a little unusual, least for me. He's got good aim, and I stop to watch, leaning against a tree a few feet behind him instead of against a bar counter or a pool table... I can't see the guy's face, but I know right away it's someone I've never met.

"So, what'd that tree ever do to you?" I pipe up with a smirk, quiet enough not to startle the guy. I really don't feel like endin' up with a knife 'tween the eyes.

There was another dull thunk as the sharp edge met bark and once again Theon went to retrieve it, announcing, "Insulted my mother, dishonoured my father, the usual offenses. Nothing I cannot handle," without sparing a look.

Only when the dagger was back in hand did the youngest kraken look for the man. The accent was queer but not unheard of, and when he spotted its owner he offered a smirk of his own before launching the knife again.

"And here I figured it must've fucked your wife and run off with your dignity. I always figured those were the usual offenses," I say, stepping forward to lean against a slightly closer tree, bare feet shuffling in the sand and head tipped back against the bark.

It doesn't even surprise me, the way the guy talks and moves. After a while in this place, you get used to the unusual. But I end up eying the flick of his wrist, sure and smooth in a way that I'm pretty sure I'd never be able master. Like it's a natural extension of his hand, which sounds lame but that's just what it looks like.

Theon's laugh was a deep one, easy-flowing after bouncing off the walls of his throat. Instead of retrieving the knife he abandoned the trunk altogether, inclining his head at the man with mild interest.

There was something decidedly intriguing there, although he couldn't place it, not yet at least. "No, you've got it all wrong. It's the other way around and I can barely walk straight because of it. Do you live there?" he nodded back at the compound.

"What did that tree ever do to you?" She'd been sitting on a nearby branch, watching his progress at singularly maiming the bit of forestry. Not that there wasn't a point of throwing daggers, but just to throw?

She'd rather perfer to flip her own.

She slithered down out of the tree, dropping the last six feet to land on her feet a bit like a cat.

Theon didn't try to squash the guilt that tickled the pit of his stomach. Instead, he let it roll off his shoulders like water as he yanked the blade from the tree.

"Trees have never been as kind to me as they are to you. I'll never understand how you move so quickly in them." He gave a soft, amused snort through his nose and then managed an evasive smirk. "Now do you mean to stand there forever, or are you going to come kiss me instead?"

Shadow smiled and moved closer to him, standing on her tiptoes for a kiss. "You know you always get a kiss." She smiled wider, and hummed softly as she leaned up higher. "I fell all the time when I was your age. Just write it down as experience."

Theon laughed -- he would also never get used to age references since the woman didn't look to have more than twenty years to her name.

"Mm," he leaned down for another kiss. "I can do that," he nodded, and he could because he preferred not to think of himself as clumsy. "Were you getting into trouble?" he asked against her lips.
