Island life wasn't much different from how his old life had been, before he had realized his powers. The days seemed to meld together until it was to the point Hiro hardly knew the date. For someone who had been starting to learn to control time, he was pretty easily losing track of it ( Read more... )

Fergus tilted his head, a puzzled expression on his face as he watched the man, who looked a bit but not much like Mr Willougby that Milord had toted about, with the exception that this man looked significantly less drunk and less likely to shoot a man and grope a whore right after. Like less trouble. With the exception of the strange expressions he kept making, which were, quite fascinating and quite disturbing.

"What are you doing? Are you confused?" he croaked in question, laughing just a bit.

Hiro looked up, immediately looking a little sheepish when he realized the man was staring at him. The person was oddly familiar to him, but Hiro couldn't put a finger on why.

"Oh, no," he replied, giving the man a friendly smile. "I was just...thinking."

To his relief, his initial observation that this man was not like Willoughby, vauge resemblance aside was confirmed. That would not have done him any sort of good. What with the nonsense talk and the ducking.

"Thinking is good. I am quite fond of it, occasionally," he grinned, scratching behind his ear with his hook.

He regarded the hook with some interest. He had never actually met someone who had a hook for a hand besides in the movies.

"Is it hard to have hook for hand?" he asked, letting his curiosity get the best of him.

Geoffrey knew the guy, even if he didn't quite know his name; he'd seen him up at Charlie's place and waved at him through the trees once or twice even though he was never entirely sure if he could be seen -- the beauty and the curse of the thick jungle -- but he'd never really made it a point to make his acquaintance.

Geoffrey was clearly a terrible neighbour.

"Hey," he greeted him as he pawed through the bookshelf looking for... well, he wasn't sure what he was looking for, but he figured he'd know it when he saw it.

Hiro had gone back to looking through the book he had found. The man he was reading about reminded him of the legend he had been following to get his sword. He glanced up at the man, immediately knowing him as one of the people he'd been seeing down at the Hamlet area.

"Hello!" he greeted. "You are neighbor, yes?"

"Neighbour, yes," repeated Geoffrey, one hand still on the bookshelf but his body turned to face his neighbour. "You're Charlie's friend." He made a gesture with his hand that was meant to indicate the proximity of their huts, but probably just looked like he was flapping his wrist. "What are you reading, there?"

Hiro smile widened at the mention of Charlie.

"She is very good friend," he agreed. He looked down at the book he was reading, then lifted it up for the man to see it. "It is about very famous samurai named Miyamoto Musashi."

Hiro had a harder time reading the book, because it was in English, but there were many pictures and he was getting the jist of a lot of it with what little he knew.

"Are you alright?" Sacharissa asked when she spotted the man, her brow furrowing in curious concern. She'd elected to come into the compound rec room to read for a while, the copy of The Iliad Mr Wyndham-Pryce recommended cradled in the crook of her arm and a cup of tea in her free hand.

Hiro hadn't even realized someone had come in. He looked up and blinked, realizing someone was watching him. The woman wasn't familiar, but she did look worried, so he offered a big smile.

"I'm very good," he assured. "You no have to worry about me."

Sacharissa couldn't help it - she smiled when he did, walking closer. "Well, so long as you're very good," she said with a sweet laugh. His manner of speaking was interesting. "It was only that you got all -" She frowned, looking for words, then settled for scrunching her own face up a bit instead.

He nodded. He didn't think she'd believe what he was actually doing, so he settled on not saying the truth.

"Oh, that? Yes. Sometimes I do that when I am thinking very hard," he explained.

"Daijoubou?" questioned O-Ren politely as she sat down beside him. Though she was in Western-style clothing today, a delicate ornament jangled quietly in her hair.

Hiro recognized the woman immediately, even out of the clothes he had first met her in. He realized she probably had just seen him squinting which, if he was being honest, probably looked admittably strange.

"Hai, daijoubu," he assured, shifting over a little to give her more room as she sat. "Ogenki desu ka?"

"Sou desu," she said agreeably. "What are you doing? I thought I might have to carry you to the clinic." O-Ren gave the book with him a cursory glance.

"I was trying something. Something I could do back home. It not work here," he explained, shaking his head. If he was honest with himself, it hadn't been working back home well either - that was what the sword he was looking to find had been for.

"Uh... Are you okay?"

Mulan had wandered into the most centralized area of the compound that day, intent on looking over this 'magic bookshelf' for books on building with palm fronds (though, she didn't know that's what they were called. in her mind it was all 'strange looking plant life'.) What she found first, however, was Hiro Nakamura, with his face scrunched up. It looked a bit painful, in her opinion. "...do you have a headache?"

Hiro opened his eyes to find a familiar face watching him. He hadn't even noticed someone coming into the room.

"I am fine," he replied, offering her a bright grin. "I did not know you came into room."

Mulan smiled. "That's alright. I just got here, and wasn't really trying to make any sound. I'm kind of used to 'treading lightly'," she said, and she took a seat beside him. "So what were you doing just now?"

Crik Yi hopped up onto the bookshelf.

"I was trying something," he explained. He paused, then added, maybe a bit sadly, "It just...not work."
