Dorothy was bored. Bored, and tired, and perhaps a bit antsy as she sat perched on a rock near the waterfall, weaving little flowers into a crown. She tapped her bare foot against the side of the rock, her sandals laying on the ground. Toto alternated between looking into the water, jumping in, and then jumping out, shaking himself off quite ( Read more... )

If he was to be stuck here (not that Peter really believed he was) than he should at least look around a bit. it would have been much faster to fly around the perimeter right quick, but Peter liked scrambling up the rocks toward the waterfall anyway.

He stopped when he saw the girl sitting near the water. There was an extraordinary number of young girls out in the middle of the jungle by themselves here. "Hello," he said, waving to her across the water.

Toto saw the boy before Dorothy did, and the small terrier ran towards him, yapping. Dorothy's eyes landed on him barely a moment later, and she blinked. "Oh! Hello!" she called in reply, waving her arm in the air. He seemed a bit younger than herself, but perhaps only by a couple of years. A sweet smile crept across her face, brown eyes looking positively delighted. "Toto, Stop that, he's not going to hurt you!"

At the sound of barking, Peter straightened up, hoping it would be a vicious, wild animal. His face fell when he saw it was only a dog (and a small one at that) but he leaned down and pet him anyway.

"You're not a mermaid, are you?" She didn't look like one, but then perhaps mermaids were different here.

Dorothy stared at the boy for a moment, almost wanting to laugh. She had worn her hair down today, so that it fell down her back in chestnut-colored waves. She had also chosen her mint-green sun-dress (now her favorite clothes). She hoped she looked pretty enough, but certainly not so wonderful as she imagined a mermaid would be; and besides that, her feet were clearly visible, and mermaids did not have feet, they had fins.

"Why no, of course I'm not!" she said, "I'm a girl, silly. Oh, but being a mermaid would be nice."
