Deep thoughts feel like ouch

Death had a stack of books at the table and she leafed through them absently. The Birth Order Book, Soul Healing, The Nurture Assumption, Mad House: Growing Up With A Mentally Ill Sibling and Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex and Romance. The bookself was not amusing her today at all. She'd not seen Stephen yesterday, instead ( Read more... )

Abby heard the reggae and decided to find out who was lucky enough to get that kind of jukebox kindness. She'd been to the lab to check on and refill her extraction apparatus (and leave yet another smiley face on Greg's notes), but it was Sunday, so she was attempting to "day of rest" at least a little.

"Oh, hi Death," she greeted the other woman simply.

She looked up from some undecipherable graph and smiled. "Hello, Abby. How are you today compared to the days before?"

Death made so much more sense after you'd talked to Delirium for a little while.

"I'm good. How are you as compared to the days before?"

"Not good. I'm confused and concerned and all sorts of con words," she said cheerfully, closing her books and pushing them aside.

Ragetti hadn't actually talked to Death for awhile, and he beamed brightly when he saw her. They didn't talk nearly as often as they had after first meeting and going through her curse, and though he still suspected she was unhappy with him for some reason, that didn't stop him from bouncing over to her.

"Death!"

"Ragetti," she beamed, jumping up to hug him tightly. "How is your penis?"

He hugged her happily, pleased by the reaction but paused and flushed at her question, looking confused. "Las' time I checked it was fine." He said slowly and suspiciously, wondering if she knew something that he didn't. After all, she was death.

"Oh, good. I was afraid it was confused," she giggled. "I have not seen you for a long time. Is my sister playing with you nicely?"

She wandered into the room, the mean room which gave her books she didn't want but gave her songs to dance to. She looked a state, twigs in her hair and her eyes vaguely distant and hazy. She'd been to the doctor House but he had been mean and sex made her feel good for a while and Ragetti made her feel real good. But right now she needed something else, her back was beginning to ache and the centipedes living there were screaming in pain.

Her sister looked mopey, like Dream. No sunshine and kittens or peaches with maggots in them. Delirium ran to her sister throwing her arms around her, hair falling into her face. She missed popping in and out of places by thought, walking tired her human body.

"siStER, siStER." Delirium said happily pressing her nose into her sister's hair.

That alone made Death close her eyes and smile. "Sister, sister," she replied, turning her head a little. "I've missed you, cutie pie."

The monsters threatened to pour out of her eyes and they did, dripping onto her sister's shoulders. Delirium wiped them away, killing and beating them to death with her hand. "i'm SOrRY tHiS bOdY iS uNconTroLLabLe aT thE MOmENt anD sO triCkLy."

Delirium smelled her sister, she smelt like Dream a little and herself and wings. She hated being so close under her siblings thumb but being human confused her at times, it was nice to see someone real here.

"Mad like angry or mad like you?" she asked, confused. As she'd done for so many others, Death wiped Del's tears away with her hair and kissed her lips softly. "Because I'm very angry with the doctors, yes. They Should Help When You Ask."

There was strange music issuing from the rec room when Arthur walked in. It was more unfamiliar to him than any he had heard the box play before, but the lyrics were understandable and the sound was not grating. Stepping towards the bookshelf to return what he had finished reading, Arthur glanced to the other occupant of the room -- and paused.

It was that girl. She seemed much more controlled now, behind a stack of books rather than sprinting through the snow, and that was perhaps the reason Arthur's stomach was all the more unsettled by her, someone who could shift so easily. "Hello," he greeted, voice even and unremarkable as he moved again, replacing the book.

She looked up from her book and blinked at him, her memory fuzzy at best and gone when it was the worst. But she remembered Artur from other times and she smiled.

"Hello," she chirped.

Book returned, Arthur turned and considered her for a moment. "You seem more settled than when I saw you last, lady. You are well, then?"

"Yes, much better now," she said sweetly. "Before I was unwell. You seem just the same, Arthur. Are you?"

Dream walked into the rec room. "Hello, Sister," he said, though he walked past her and to the bookshelf where he started thumbing through books, looking for something particular.

"Hello," she replied without taking the thumb she was chewing on out of her mouth. "Dream? Do you feel you have to do what I say?" she asked, reading straight from the book.

Dream didn't turn to look at her, he was too busy reading the spines of books. But he did respond, "Have to do? No, I've never felt that way. But I do take your opinion very seriously. You're my older sister, after all."

"I think these books may not be useful since we don't have parents. These seem to be mortal issues," she explained, sucking her thumb dry and closing the book. "However, I do have an opinion. You need a lover."
