This is the drill.

Ianto needed coffee.

There were rumors everywhere. Ianto was by no means a gossip, but he was also not dense. He knew how to listen, how to observe, and he had been involved in enough top secret cover-ups and no-so-secret clean-ups to know when something was up.

Death was never an easy thing with which to deal. Losing someone one cared about unexpectedly was an emotional blow to the gut that could leave one crippled. It had nearly crippled Ianto once, although his losses had been much greater than two. At the very least, for those who were not personally connected to the deceased, death summoned up all sorts of melancholy thoughts and introspection. The fact that it was a murder made it all the worse. There was an unspoken, in some cases probably unconscious, trust shared among the members of any community, but this island in particular. It was too easy, really, for something like this to happen, if someone knew what he or she was doing. The friendly spirits he had encountered only showed that the people here had a great faith in their fellow man or were too naive to act otherwise. Ianto preferred to believe the former.

And then there was the mess at the treehouse. Jack hadn't come home last night, from what he could tell, and Ianto couldn't really blame him. There were strange undercurrents of tension among the four males in that house, which, while somewhat intriguing in that watching-a-train-wreck sort of way, were rather uncomfortable and confusing from an inside-outsider perspective. Ianto had no idea how to act, how to smooth things over, so he left.

Not to mention the part about his life being a television series (he supposed). It had to be a television show; no one made thirteen movies along a single story line. The only thing Ianto had decided to do about that was ignore it for the time being. But it still worried at the back of his mind.

Really, it was just an excellent way to start the new year.

He needed coffee, and headed for the kitchen to make some.

[ Welshman in the kitchen. Taggable. :-) Have him making coffee or walk in on your pup already there. Open to anyone. ]
