Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me

Nov 26, 2006 16:30

For a pirate, Anamaria had spent precious little time at her vessel. The Pearl was a depressing place for her, a ship that wouldn't sail, freedom gutted and foundered. It was enough to drive a decent pirate to drink. And the fact that that mean Anamaria needed something to drink meant that she'd had to stockpile a whole new run of rum. Given ( Read more... )

Ragetti had been walking back towards the Black Pearl and saw an oddly familiar looking woman dressed in mans' clothing. He wasn't quite sure where he had seen her, but she was in dress of his time period and by the ship. She was also in position of a large piece of wood. Looking around in mild confusion, he tried calling out a greeting.

"Ahoy!" It was followed by his usual sparadic waving that caused his entire body to flail with his arm, much like when the dog wags with the tail.

Anamaria turned and tilted her head at the man, squinting against the light then groaned in recognition. She hadn't met him for but a few moments but sometimes that was all it took to realize that someone what a complete and utter moron. Much like meeting Jack and discovering he was daft.

"Ahoy. You're one of Barbossa's," Anamaria returned flatly.

He froze mid-wobbly stride and looked about in surprise, half expecting to see Barbossa himself ready to breathe down his neck. Looking back to her he finished approaching and cocked his head to the side curiously.

"Eh? Dat was a while go, Mizz. I was wit Cap'n Sparrow's crew whens I gots pulled 'ere. Da I know ye? Ye looks righ' familiar."

"Well, I suppose if anyone is daft enough to hire back a mutineer it's Jack Sparrow." She hitched up the board higher under her arm and gave him a short nod, "I'm Anamaria Finch."

"Those are words to live by," Jack said in as sage a tone as a man could manage while grinning merrily. Of course his interest in the sign did not last very long since the woman who had fashioned the sign was far more interesting. "And hello to you, signora." Certainly he was quite used to women disguising themselves as men.

Anamaria cast a glance down at the sign and gave the man a dry look. "Aye and believe me, it's well worth the warning." She could tell by his walk that he was no sailor. She didn't return the grin. She didn't smile much at the best of times.

Jack looked slightly disturbed and wondered if she did not smile because there were serious concerns that needed addressing. Indeed, Casanova could not help that burning alcohol was serious business and beyond that quite wrong. "Are people here in the habit of burning precious commodities?"

"Did it my own bloody self when this island turned my brain to mush. This is just a precaution against it again." She regarded him impassively for a moment then shrugged, "Do you want something?"

"Ahoy there!" called Faris, from her usual perch on the railing of the Black Pearl. She'd taken a rather keen liking to the decks, and the grip on the railing. That isn't to say she never left the ship, but she was just as content on it as off.

Anamaria turned back to the ship and waved up at Faris, "Ahoy, mate! How you be today?" She grinned and wandered back toward the listing hull of the ship.

"Oh, well as c'n be expected." Faris gripped the rail with both hand, and tucked her feet up beneath her, so that the heels of her boots gripped onto the railing as well. "Ya see, there's a thing about bein' on a ship that feels like home. But ain't worth much if it's never anythin' but tied t'shore."

"Aye, painfully and sadly true. I'd give me left arm for a decent skiff or dinghy if it would get me back to sea for even a day. Don't need it so much as all that and I'd be a happy pirate." Anamaria kicked the sand. "Not bloody made to rot on a beach."

He was looking more at the boat than the lass, truth by told, though whatever she was doing was in the corner of his eye. His last meeting with a pirate hadn't exactly gone badly, and Ian had got to thinking that on an island as small as this one, avoidance wasn't always the best option.

He shaded his eyes and watched, bent over his knees, a hint of tension around the set of his jaw.

Anamaria was aware that she was being watched and her hand twitched for a knife several times. She waited instead, to see what the silent man wanted then finally grew restless and raised her head to look at him directly, "And what is it that you be wanting, mate? I'll not be turning into a merfolk and swimming away no matter how much you stare."

Ian looked taken a back and blushed reflexively, though he didn't move.

"I dinna want anything, Miss," he said, deciding on impulse that she looked like the sort of girl to be offended by the word "lass". "I wasna really lookin' at ye."

Her eyes narrowed at him for a dangerous moment before she decided that she wasn't feeling particularly hostile. "You don't be needing to call me miss, I'm no proper maid. Years too old and miles too..." she smirked, "experienced. What was it that you were looking at then?"

A kraken was made to commandeer greatships, if not crunch them to itty bitty pieces. Before his disastrous trip back home to Pyke the young Greyjoy was likely to crunch a boat to pieces all right -- more out of inexperience than terrible hunger, anyway.

It was completely besides the point that there was nothing particularly great about the Black Pearl. Theon liked it from afar well enough, so he decided to finally like it up close once and for all. The young kraken did more than lazily smile at the young woman when he came upon her -- he assessed her in a way that was thoroughly...appreciative. "Even if your life depends on it?" gave a nod at the sign.

Anamaria grinned, appreciating the look of him as much as the look he gave her. "Aye, even at that. Better to drink it down and die a happy sailor than to see it burn again."

"I would drink to that," his smile crinkling into a similar grin as he ambled closer, "Only I seem to be fresh out of spirits myself."

"Ah, well, lucky for you and for your toast that I've a jot of the stuff myself." She plucked her flask from her hip, newly filled with the first of her restored spirits and gave him a wink before tilting it back for a long drink. "Ah, a fine brew. Fancy a taste?"
