After the weird weekend, Duncan wasn't actually hiding out, he just... wasn't meeting new people. The people that mattered (Veronica, Logan, and occasionally Dick), he saw more or less every day, but the King of Neptune wasn't looking for new friends, just yet. He still hadn't figured the place out.

But, apparently, the place had figured him out. He was walking along the beach in board shorts, contemplating a swim, when he spotted a familiar blonde head... and a familiar blood pattern
(OhgodLillypleasecomeback... don'tdothisLillyplease...)
on her head. He touched his fingertips to his cheek, recalling the last moment he could before his four-day blackout. It was seeing her there, and the world had lurched, shifted to black and white, went gritty, meant less.

He tried to say her name, but he just hitched a gasp, frozen in the sand, water lapping at his feet and ankles.

He wanted to assure her that he didn't see them, but he had, and it was awkward. Heartbreaking. She had to know what Aaron was doing to Logan, and... God.

"Veronica and I found them." That was all he said. She'd know by the way he averted his eyes.

"When?" She sounded suddenly panicked, but she couldn't help it; it didn't make any sense. After all, she hadn't had them very long. How could they have found them?

It was obvious that they had found them though if Duncan's reaction was anything to go by. Probably nothing quite as awkward as seeing documented proof of your sister fuck her boyfriend's dad. Great.

But, that still didn't make her dead.

"We were... looking for something. At the Echolls'. He stashed them in the air vent." The irony was a little too sick to mention, but it was out before he had time to dam it up. "We didn't know what they were, but we watched them and... and Veronica figured it out. You know how--" But she didn't. She didn't know that Veronica's aptitiude for sluething had gone above and beyond and that she'd found some beauty in being a misfit and that until recently, there was no more Duncan and Veronica. At least she knew why they split in the first place. At least there was one aspect of his life he regretted that didn't have to do with the immediate fallout after Lilly's death. It wasn't her fault. Not in the least. It was Aaron Echolls', and he wouldn't be ruining anyone ever again.
