"Hello," he murmured, lips curving just a bit when he turned to face her, then knelt down on the stones next to her, an inch or two shy of actually touching. "This day has been a long one," he said after a brief silence. He could feel the tension in his muscles ease just slightly, nevertheless, merely from her effect upon him.

"Do you yet have everything you need for the clinic?" Moving everything had been a bit of a rushed adventure, and he dreaded that she might be struggling without something they had forgotten. Just now, she seemed mostly weary and probably suffering from similar pains, and he resisted the urge to offer her anything more than sympathy.
