A Truly Anti Meal

Aug 20, 2007 18:35

So. I've had it in my mind for a while to make my own gyros.

I love gyros. My wife loves gyros. Bird can eat cereal.

Thing is I have never had a "real" gyro in that I always order the chicken and not the lamb. My wife always eats the lamb and never the chicken.

Apparently gyros should be made with lamb, so obviously, I want to make them with lamb.

I've been waiting for the gyro report...what was it about the lamb that wasn't good?? I'm so disappointed for you guys. I had such high hopes when you first announced the gyro-making plan.

But wow...what a grill!! I'm so jealous, that looks awesome. :)

*Sigh* Since I've never had lamb before, I don't know what went wrong! Maybe I just don't like lamb? Maybe I pysched myself out?

Maybe Ams can better answer the question since she has something to compare my lamb to.

lamb vs gyro deidre1267 August 22 2007, 01:40:11 UTC
OK gals very good attempt. Leg of lamb is one thing and gyro meat is another. Gyro meat is "pulverized" meat or something like lamb meatloaf and then cooked on a rotisserie.Leg of lamb is a roast and served like a roast and it does have a very distinct taste. You either love lamb or hate it. But Gyro is a very different taste, I think eaier to eat for most also.

If you want to give it another try I can send you a gyro recipe that I have and that I have been meaning to try since we love them too, (but we also love any kind of lamb)

BTW you can buy leg of lamb at Costco for a very good price probably better than the butcher and its boneless\

Costco lamb better than what you can get fresh from a butcher? Hmmm.

Emeril's recipe is called "Greek Grilled Leg of Lamb: Gyros" so I sure figured leg was the only way to go.

Eh, live and learn.

I think we'll just stick to the greek vendors for our gyro needs, but thank you for the recipe offer!

"better than the butcher" is in reference to the cost only. I am sure the butcher's meat is fresher.
