Part V: - Fragility.
"Catherine, Sara." Gil waves a slip at us. "Suicide in the holding cell over at PD."
I take it, Sara's already on her feet and we head out. Nick pulls a face for some reason.
I have a bad feeling about this. Something nags at me. Something's not right.
"What's wrong?" Sara asks me as we head to the Tahoe.
"I just have this bad feeling." I say.
Sara pauses. She stops and looks around, "C'mere."
I move into her arms. She hugs me. I melt into her arms. She smiles. "Better now Catherine?" She asks me huskily.
"You know I am." I tell her.
"C'mon, let's go process." She tells me, "Sooner we can process, sooner we can get on the case and maybe the paperwork."
"Right." I pull away from her, "Let's go."
"As you wish." Sara replies.
I aim a swat to her ass. "Don't give me cheek. And I'm driving."
Sara jumps slightly at my swat. "Yes ma'am."
I just laugh then roll my eyes, "Just get in the car Sidle."

I carry my kit, Sara follows behind me. The holding cell at PD isn't that big. The body swings gently in the non existent breeze. The orange jumpsuit looks a little baggy on him. I think.
Sara sighs gently behind me, "The Butterfly Effect." She notes sadly. "One little twitch and the world feels it."
"A butterfly dies." I say as I watch as David starts to cut down the body, "And it ripples all over their world." I kneel down opening my kit. Sara does the same and in silence we process the scene.
One butterfly dies causing so many deaths. I think to myself as I watch Sara calmly process the bed as I try and process the area surrounding the body.
First it's the photos, then we find any evidence that is to be found. The main one seems to be the noose.
David works the noose off, it takes him a few minutes, but he finally works it loose and offers it up. I take the noose then put it in an evidence bag. Sara fishes out the other end, putting that in another evidence bag.
"How long has he been dead?" I ask David as he checks the liver temp.
"A couple of hours, maybe." He hazards, "But you'll know more after the post." He looks at me.
"Thanks David." I say.
He just smiles then zips the bag up and puts it onto a gurney so he can take it to the coroner’s office.
I just watch it go.
What a waste. I think. I shake my head and then continue my evidence hunt.

It was pretty simple after that. DNA and trace came back as the victim's. The COD was strangulation caused by tying a noose made of bed sheets around his neck. I fill in my paperwork. This is the easiest part of the whole shift.
The suicide note was rather illumining. He didn't try and ask forgiveness. He was distinctly unrepentant. He just wanted to know that he did everything in Debbie's name. I shake my head. Someone always has to take the blame. Blame the dead because they can't fight back.
"Hey." I look up. It's Sara, she is watching me. Her posture is relaxed but her eyes betray her nervousness.
"Finished?" I ask her as I stand up.
She nods.
I smile, then stand up, "Why don't you go to the car? I drop the reports off with Gil." I ask, "Maybe we can go some where get some breakfast what do you say?"
Sara smiles, then she puts her arms around my waist and pulls me close, "I'll take you up on that offer, but I think I fancy some home cooking today." She smirks at me.
I like that smirk. "OK, baby." I smile at her. "Home cooking it is then sweetheart."
Sara grins at me showing the gap in-between her teeth. "I'll go wait." She pulls away from me, "Don't be too long." She teases as she disappears down the corridor.
I laugh then shake my head and gather the paperwork up. I head down the corridor saying hello to a couple of the lab rats as I walk.
Greg stops me, "Hey Catherine."
I look at him, "Yeah Greg?"
"Have you seen Sara?" He asks me.
"She's gone home." I tell him.
"Damn, I was going to ask if she wanted to come to breakfast with me, Nick and Warrick."
I smile, "I'm sorry, I already asked..."
Greg looks at me. Then a big smile appears on his face, "You and Sara having breakfast..." He almost leers.
"We have breakfast." I tell him, "And get your head out of the gutter Greg or I will tell Sara about the time you tried to peek at her in the showers."
Greg goes white then makes a hasty exit. I laugh at his antics. Poor Greg, he had the biggest crush on Sara, and it will never happen.
I shake my head and head to Gil's office. He's buried in paperwork, he raises his head as I walk in.
I put the paperwork on Gil's desk, he looks at it then just nods. I just half smile then turn to leave. Something bugs me. Why he gave us the suicide, even though...
"Why did you give me the Ingles suicide?" I ask Gil as I stop at the door.
"I thought you needed closure." He says.
"From what?" I ask him, turning to face him.
"Ghosts." He says softly.
I look at him, "What?"
"I saw the interview. You know that a couple of the more obscure meanings of phantasm are counterfeit and impostor?"
I shake my head, "No I didn't."
"Everyone had a view of Debbie all of them different. But which one was the real one?" He asks me.
There's a beat, "You have something real Catherine. Not a phantasm, she's waiting for you. Go home. Take a few days off. I don't want to see either of you for the next three days." He looks at me over his glasses.
"Yes Gil." I turn to leave, "Gil?"
"Yes?"
"Phantasm is just like fantasy." I look at him again, "Not real. One might come true, the other is what left of the truth." I tell him.
He looks puzzled at that. "What do you mean?" He asks me.
I smile, "Reality and fantasy blur to make phantasms." I tell him before I walk away. Taking a deep breath.
Sara's waiting for me at the car. She looks at me, "You OK?" She asks me. She takes a step towards me, concern written on her face.
"Let's go huh?" I dodge the question.
Sara's lips purse, but she doesn't say a word. She turns away then opens the door and gets in the passenger seat. I get in the other side.
The drive passes quickly. We're listening to the radio. Sara hums along to a couple of the songs. She sings softly. I love to hear her voice. She's in good mood. She flashes me a wide smile, when we wait at a set of lights. I find myself returning her smile.
I turn into the road for our house, "What do you fancy for breakfast?" I ask.
Sara considers this, "Waffles." She tells me.
"OK, waffles it is then." I tell her. I turn into my drive and park up. We both take off our belts and get out of the car. I fish my keys out and let us in.
As soon as she's in, I close the door, "I think the waffles can wait." I tell her as I walk past her.
Sara looks quizzical. "Why's that?" She asks me. I love it when she plays dumb.
I push her against the door. She pulls me down, kissing me. I don't resist. Playing dumb only worked for a few seconds.
I pull away from her, she moves her mouth to my neck, pressing kisses against my neck, "Bedroom." I murmur.
Sara smiles at me, flashing the gap between her teeth. She grabs my hand and leads me up to the bedroom.
I guess breakfast can wait.
The door is shut, I'm pushed onto the bed. Sara gives me a feral smile, "Perfect." She tells me, "Absolutely perfect."
I like her look. She looks at me, "Take your shoes and socks off, please Catherine." She commands me.
I smirk then bend down, I know that Sara's eyes drop down to look at me. I take off my shoes and then drop my socks to the floor. "What else?"
"Shirt and pants. Then I would like you to get up on the bed sit against the headboard, please." Sara requests.
I smirk at her, then start to undo my shirt. Sara's eyes remain glued to me. I like that. I drop my shirt.
Sara watches me. I do what she says. I sit on the bed waiting for her. Sara smiles then she strips off. She crawls on her hands and knees to me. She's naked.
"I've been waiting all shift to do this." She tells me, kissing me, hungrily. "Watching you." She murmurs as she pushes me so I'm lying down and she's hovering over me. "I wanted to claim you."
"How would you claim me?" I ask, as she kisses me again.
Sara smiles, "I'd take you on the break room table." She looks at me.
I move my arms, I pull her down again, this time her arms fold down, she lies on me. She forces a leg in-between mine. I gasp pulling away.
Sara cups my face, she strokes my cheek, "I wouldn't care who saw us." She murmurs, "You'd be all mine."
I move my hands, tangling my fingers into her hair smiling, "You always want me to yourself don't you Sara?"
Sara smiles, her smile is feral. She starts to kiss her way down my neck, "You do the same beautiful." She whispers against my skin. Her hands flatten, then they move up my sides. I move my hands to help her. I reach around to unhook my bra.
Sara watches me, then her mouth makes it's way to my bared breasts, one hand teasing the left nipple as she engulfs the right in her mouth. I arch my back forcing more of my breast into her mouth.
All too soon her mouth is replaced with her hand as she works her way down my body. I feel her fingers curl around my underwear. I move my hands to help her.
"Don't." Sara whispers moving her hands, "Please let me."
I look into her eyes, then I drop my hands. Sara smiles then she gently curls her fingers around my underwear dropping to the floor. I feel her hand on my hips. She kisses
I feel her hand on my stomach before I feel her lips on my stomach, tracing kisses down. I spread my legs allowing her to settle in-between them. She inhales, "I want you."
I look at her, "Then you have me." I whisper, cupping her face.
Sara smiles then presses a kiss against my hand, then she bends her head. Her first touch drives my eyes to close, I reach down tangling my fingers into her hair.
Sara moans softly which sends a shiver down my spine as it vibrates through me. She latches on to my clit and sucks hard. I gasp as she enters me with three fingers, moving hard against me.
I don't last long, "Sara!" I call her name to the ceiling. I still feel her moving inside me.
I open my eyes, Sara's staring at me. She bends down and kisses me, "I love you Catherine."
I smile, "I love you too." I pull her down, she slips a thigh in-between my legs, "Why Ms Sidle are you trying to knock me out?" I tease as I move my hands so I can rake my nails down her back.
That gets me an arch that forces her fingers deeper inside me. I hiss. Sara smiles, "Like that baby?" She asks me.
I nod, "I thought about this when I was doing paper work. My mind kept wandering to you." She tells me as she moves, "I couldn't help myself." She tells me softly, her eyes fix on my face. "I couldn't stop thinking about how good you'd look when I touch you. How good you look naked..." She sighs, "How you feel when I make love to you. How you taste, how you smell. I love your scent. I can't get enough of you Catherine."
I look at her, her eyes close briefly, then she opens her eyes, I find myself drowning in those eyes. I pull her down again, kissing her. Sara pushes her tongue into my mouth, I suck on it. She moans and with a forceful thrust I come again.
I finally let go of her, taking a deep breath. Sara removes her hand and under my watchful gaze cleans my juices off her hand, stealing a kiss after she finishes.
"Mmm." I murmur softly, "Need a little help?" I ask as I reach down, playing with her nipples.
Sara hisses, then she grabs my wrist gently pinning them over my head, "I'm fine, Cath." She tells me, give me a kiss.
I pout, but I snake my leg around her and pull her down. Sara releases my wrists, she snuggles up to me. I let my hands wander over shoulders and down her sides, "Pity." I whisper kissing her again, "I could of given you a nice..."
Sara shushes me by putting her finger to my lips, "It was enough for me." She tells softly before she steals another kiss.
I smile, "Well I guess waffles can wait then."
Sara swats me gently before pulling the covers over us, "Somehow I don't I mind missing out on waffles." She tells me.
I laugh, then close my eyes curling up in her arms before I fall asleep.
