Closing the door behind him Minwoo quickly hurried out, dragging his suitcase. He stood at the bus stop. He didn’t exactly know where he was going, just anywhere, anywhere where Youngmin wasn’t. He needed to get away, not just because the relationship wasn’t full of love - well not the fluffy kind that makes you feel all warm inside, but there was plenty of the other kind of love, the possessive, controlling kind - but because Minwoo knew it was only a matter of time before the bruise on his cheek became bruises all over his body. He also knew that there was only so long he could run and hide in the bathroom before Youngmin broke the door down.

It had been good, at the start, they were 17 when they fell in love. High school sweethearts. They’d gone to university together, moved in together and now after graduating were just living together and working. Minwoo was a trainee nurse and Youngmin was a police officer. Minwoo knew it was a ridiculous risk leaving Youngmin, he left a note, hoping to mislead Youngmin a little bit, giving him time to work out what to do. He’d told Youngmin he was visiting his brother for a few days and not to worry. He’d only packed enough clothes for a few days as to not arouse suspicion. Minwoo had planned this, mostly. He’d planned leaving, he’d planned walking out the door. It was just afterwards that he hadn’t got round to planning.

Earlier that morning, Minwoo had woken up to Youngmin going through the wardrobe looking for his uniform. Minwoo got up out of the bed, in just his boxers and given Youngmin a quick peck before going down to make breakfast like he always did. Minwoo was tired, he’d had the night shift but he still had to make Youngmin breakfast, he didn’t bear to think what would happen if he didn’t.

Youngmin came down and looked at the breakfast laid out on the table, “Once you’ve finished cooking, go back to be Minnie.” Youngmin had said softly giving Minwoo a very short peck to the forehead. Minwoo was just trying to keep himself awake, Minwoo managed to serve up the food with no problems, maybe it was being used to the lack of sleep that got him through. His phone lit up and Minwoo moved over to grab but the ID showed up. Hyunseonggie. “Who’s that.” Youngmin demanded, snatching the phone.

“He’s just no one.” Minwoo said quietly, “Just someone I work with.” Minwoo reached for the phone only to receive a hard punch to the jaw. Minwoo’s eyes stung, this wasn’t the first time Youngmin had got aggressive, he was used to Youngmin threatening him, throwing things and banging on doors that Minwoo hid himself behind but this was the first real time Minwoo had been punched by his boyfriend. “I’m sorry.” Minwoo said quietly before running upstairs and going into the bathroom, locking the door and hiding, sitting next to the bath, trying not to cry.

He heard a knock on the door. “Minnie.” Youngmin said softly, “You know I hate being like this but if you weren’t a whore behind my back this wouldn’t happen. I’m going to work now, see you tonight.” Minwoo managed to say goodbye through the door, he didn’t want to face Youngmin. Minwoo was shaking violently, as he looked at himself in the mirror. His jaw was already swelling. Minwoo unlocked the door slowly, he didn’t feel like going back to bed now. He went downstairs and saw his phone, he grabbed it and saw that Hyunseung had been deleted from it, but he didn’t care. He called his brother.

“I-It’s me.” Minwoo breathed out, trying not to cry. “I-It’s worse. H-He… He… He hit me.” Minwoo gasped his breath hitching as he sobbed down the phone. His brother at the other end trying to think of what to do, he’d spent months trying to tell Minwoo he needed to get out.

Minwoo got on the bus, a few people staring at his swollen face. He opened his phone, turning it on and then dialling Youngmin. It went to answerphone like he’d hoped. “Younggie, my brother called and said his girlfriend is sick and because she’s carrying his baby and I’m a nurse specialising in midwifery he’s asked me to stop over, there is no need for you to come, I know you’re busy with the police work you do. I love you.” Minwoo said managing to hold his composure before hanging up. The bus was 4 hours, he felt glad that he was four hours away from Youngmin. Minwoo was still shaking, and a woman who was sat across from him touched, his arm he flinched, he had bruises there too.

A few nights ago Youngmin had gotten home, late. Minwoo was already in bed, and Youngmin just got in next to him, pressing his bulge against Minwoo. Minwoo had moved to get out of the way, he wasn’t in the mood for sex, he’d had a busy day and now was not the right time for him. Youngmin had grabbed his arm tightly and pressed against him more. “Younggie, not tonight.” Minwoo whispered, “Please.” He’d said as Youngmin pulled his boxers down. Minwoo sighed and turned, gently reaching his hands into Youngmin’s boxers, taking his length and stroking it. Youngmin growled, kissing Minwoo harshly, still gripping Minwoo’s arm, leaving garish purple bruises. After Youngmin had came he fell asleep, which allowed Minwoo to do the same, still feeling somewhat dirty and used.

Minwoo got up carefully at his stop and saw his brother waiting for him, he held onto his brother tightly. “It’s ok Minnie.” His brother said holding him close, Minwoo cried onto his brother holding him tight, not wanting to let go. His brother helped him take his stuff to the house and they sat down in the living room, Minwoo looked around a little. “You need to leave the country.” His brother said, “You need to be as far away from him as you possibly can. I managed to get you a holiday visa to England, once you are in England tell the immigration service that you are escaping an abusive partner, they will be able to mask your entry to the country and from there you will be able to find work in a different country, but the note will already be on your passport. Minwoo nodded.

Minwoo went to the airport the next day, he was shaking, scared Youngmin would have worked it out, but there was no Youngmin at the airport and everything seemed as if it would be alright. Minwoo sat on the plane, he’d stopped shaking.

He was still alive and he had the rest of his life to live.
