Summer Challenge 2015!

May 03, 2015 12:28

It's that time again, authors! Summer is upon us! Which means we've got some summer goodies lined up for you all, the first of which being a summer-long toppings/extras challenge!

How it will work:This year's challenge contains various levels, each one dedicated to completing a certain number of pieces with the full range of toppings/extras. They are as follows:

Level 1: The 10 Topping/Extra Challenge
Perfect for those of you out there with these "life" things I keep hearing about. To complete this level, write any number of pieces containing at least 10 different toppings or extras. You can write an individual piece for each topping/extra, or combine them on pieces. You choose!

Level 2: The Full Toppings/Extras Challenge
Got level one done and still hungry for more? Amp up the challenge and complete pieces containing every one of the toppings/extras RaTs has to offer! At this level, you're more than welcome to combine toppings/extras on pieces. Also the pieces you wrote for Level 1 still count toward completing Level 2.

Level 3: 19 Piece Challenge
Really a glutton for punishment? Complete 19 separate pieces, each one with only one topping/extra per piece. This doesn't mean a piece can't be both brownie and chopped nuts, for example, but you can only claim it as completing either brownie or chopped nuts, not both. You can use pieces you wrote for the previous levels, but you've got to choose so that each piece only counts for 1 topping/extra and you end up with 19 total.

Level 4: Bonus Challenge
Okay, now we're just getting to the level of saints and lunatics here. After completing the 19 piece challenge, pick a topping and complete TEN pieces that use that topping (the one you completed for the 19 piece challenge counts toward the ten...I'm not gonna be cruel and make you write 11). For all you new folks--10 of a topping nets you a banner for that topping, and if you complete 10 for all 9 toppings, you've completed The Works challenge! Woo hoo! The object of Level 4 isn't for you to do 10 for EVERY topping, just maybe one to end the summer on a particularly sweet note. (Ha ha ha...ugh.)

Keeping Track
Now, as you may have noticed, it may be convenient for both us as writers and readers cheering on our fellow travelers for people to have posts where they update their progress through their challenge(s) and link to the pieces they've used for them. They also might be useful places for us to ask each other where to find extra prompt lists for gummy bunnies, discuss milkshakes/coordinate smoothies, and so on. The question is, of course, is where would ya'll like your individual posts to be put? I was thinking either here or on the Bunny Den, but if anyone has a better idea, feel free to offer it up. Comment on this post with which you'd like, and once we've got a popular consensus, there'll be an announcement posted to the main com. to tell everyone who wants to participate where to post their "directory" entry, so to speak.

Prizes?
They say a good challenge is its own reward...but a little extra swag doesn't hurt, no? Comment on this post with prize ideas (banners? art? fanfic? care packages? something else?). I think the comments here would be a good place to brainstorm/accumulate ideas for possible prizes. Then, on your "directory" entry for the challenge, you can put on it either what prizes you'd like to get/what you'll give out, or if you'd rather just exempt yourself from the whole prize business. (Which is perfectly a-ok! Completing the challenge is stress enough, no need to add more obligation on top of it if you ain't feeling it.)

Anyway, that's what I've got for now. So! Drop some comments here with suggestions/questions/concerns/whatever I missed. If you're not feeling like the topping/extra challenge is your bag, fear not--there will be other fun challenges (most likely on less insane scales) going on throughout the summer, enough for everyone to hopefully find one or two things that strike their fancy.

As of right now, I'm thinking of having the challenge run from May 15 to September 15. Is that workable?

Let's get pumped up! Or...mildly enthused? Something. XD
