Marcus pulls his tie off with a sigh of relief, shoving it in his blazer pocket. Technically, he could get into trouble for that sort of rule-breaking, but it’s only the first day of term so he’s not too worried. Plus, he’s an in older form in the well established Calleva House. I can't decide which one I love more, Marcus or Esca, because they are both so awesome! I love how protective they are of each other already, even if Esca keeps snagging Marcus' stuff...

Esca does things for Marcus, random things that Marcus doesn‘t even think of asking for. Esca leaves coffee for him on his bedside table, so Marcus can have it before his first class. He turns the radiator on in the morning so the room’s not freezing cold when Marcus drags himself out of bed. Marcus’s room is always neat, his things always tidy. His shoes are polished, his bed neatly made… His knife stays hidden in his boot in the closet. His porn is never returned. (Marcus still hasn’t brought himself to ask Esca about it, although he dreams about it at night sometimes, with his hand between his legs, or in the shower, with the water coursing down his back ( ... )

He finds Esca in the public bathhouse, the one where all the younger boys shower. Marcus checks it quickly, but there’s no one else there. Perfect. He closes the door behind him. Esca looks up warily, dropping the cleaning brush into the bucket of soapy water beside him ( ... )

I really think that Marcus should join the half of the school that is buggering the other and show Esca a good time.

“There’s a track.” Esca says at last. The words are barely audible, like he’s not too sure about speaking them.

“What?”

“A running track. An unused one. It goes around by the forest. The other boys use the one closer to the playing fields. I could show you…if you want.”

Marcus isn’t sure what he wants, he doesn’t want to commit to anything to do with his leg…but Esca’s offering something that he doesn’t have to and Marcus can’t refuse that.

“Okay, show me.”

The track is rough, and slightly overgrown, but private enough if Marcus wanted to run. It curves around the trees and down by the river before returning to the school. It'll work, if he wants it to.

“Thanks.” He tells Esca, as they head back.

Esca shrugs. He seems more relaxed once they’re out of sight of the school, like he can breathe again. ‘Wonder what it’d take to make him smile?’ Marcus thinks, and he knows he’s set himself a challenge ( ... )

Esca still is understandably wary but I do believe he is starting to warm up to Marcus, yay!

Jesus. Things that make you go 'bluhuhuhuhuh.' *SHUDDER* Srsly butt crawl-inducing, Placid. I can't even. KEEP YOUR FILTHY MITTS TO YOURSELF.

Marcus and Esca, however, are great fun with their strained and somewhat odd relationship. And hot UST is very, very hot.

LOL, a fair few of my family members and friends/acquaintances have gone to non-co-ed boarding schools (and some co-ed, too), so I'm reading and trying to shut my brain off from thinking thoughts that cannot be unthought. O.O LALALALALALA I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW, KTHXBAI.

Marcus is such a woobie, and in so far over his head already, and Esca is so *inscrutable.* It's a winning combination.

Lol, well, while I'm sure SOME things definitely go on at boarding schools, I am definitely fictionalizing for the sake of the story. So yeah...

I am so horrified and creeped out by Placid and basically everyone in this school except for Esca and Marcus. But yay for Marcus continuing to show some moral fiber!
