Cradoc/Marcus (bookverse)

I'm reading through the book for the first time, and what really jumped out at me so far (aside from characters and huge swaths of the book being ripped out for the movie, like Esca giving Marcus a puppy, lol) is how deeply disappointed Marcus feels when (spoilers for those reading, since this storyline's mangled in the movie:) his hunting buddy turns out to be the leader of the rebellion against him. It read so slashy to me, the way he insists to himself that it's not like Cradoc lied to him, but that he owed his people more, but then the description of the battle is Cradoc, Cradoc, Cradoc. He even starts reminiscing about him when he's talking to Cottia for the first time

It's not this, since it's already started, but I've got Marcus/Cradoc in what I'm currently writing. It's more about the first paragraph of your prompt than the second though.
