Cottia attached herself to him like a limpet as soon as he arrived at school the following day.

“Marcus!” she exclaimed, clinging to his arm. “Did you see Esca last night? It was amazing! I’ve never seen anyone skate like that, never, and I can hardly believe he’s our friend!”

Marcus pulled his arm free so that he could unlock his locker, unable to stop thinking that Esca was his friend, thank you very much, and Cottia was just weaseling her way in. Then he reminded himself that he was being unfair and that she had every right to befriend Esca, and why wouldn’t she want to? He was completely different than anyone Marcus had ever met ( ... )

The fall went by in a whirl, Marcus kept busy with one thing after another, but as time passed the sound of Esca’s voice was no longer enough to fill the void his presence had left in Marcus’ life. It didn’t even stem the tide anymore, it only made Marcus ache more, the pressure building in his chest as they spoke on the phone. YAY, long update! This is still one of my very favorite fics. I love how Marcus is getting so close to telling people and then backing away. I love how absolutely SMITTEN he is. I love all of it! I can't wait for more!

I was reading this update with a ridiculous grin on my face; Marcus is so in love and I love how he really just wants to talk about Esca all the time and I feel so bad for him having to keep it a secret. I can't wait to see what will happen when Esca returns!

I was so, so thrilled to see that this had been updated again and it did not disappoint. This is like the very best type of teen-angst-John-Hughes-movie-fic and I *love* what you're doing with it.

I am fairly certain Cottia is going to dump Marcus the following day, because she has a head on her shoulders and can read the situation, what Marcus and Esca both want. AND THEN WHAT WILL MARCUS DO. :D

Be still my beating heart, this is absolutely amazing! I kept getting all choked up at poor conflicted Marcus and I feel so bad for Esca, he let down his guard with Marcus and has ended up getting hurt :( It's so sad. I can't wait for the rest, I repeat, absolutely amazing!!

Part three, as promised. However, I am getting very close to finishing and it occurs to me that I won't be posting much longer in the meme. It's almost time to de-anon and post the parts complete in my journal. When I do that I will of course post links here, but I will stop posting snippets in the meme as well. I am hoping to post 2 parts a week until it's all done, and it's in 7 parts. :) With any luck I'll be posting part one within the week-ish, so keep your eyes peeled.
