I know a little of Alchemy, if you are that curious.

[No demonstration though. She knows the theory, not the practical side.]

Ah -- really? [Conan's not sure whether he's pleased or put out by this revelation -- you seemed so normal Riza.] That'd be great!

[She is normal. Mostly. Sorta.] It's no trouble. What do you wish to know>? I'll explain as best I can.

Well, in my world alchemy's not real so ... everything, really! How does it work?

Alchemy is the science of Equivalent Exchange. Something can not be made from nothing. Say you wish to make a doll. You can not make a doll does not have the same amount of material than what you started with, be it sand, dirt, fibers of some sort. One cannot bypass that law. It's impossible, and from what I know, the toll for doing so is fatal. An alchemist works with arrays both simple and complex to do the transmutations. I know little about that part myself, I'm sorry. [A lie, but one she's told so many times it's natural now.]

Equivalent exchange -- so you need materials and an array -- what's that, by the way? A sort of construct? -- to transmute into a final product? And the final product can be -- what?

[A few mins, and a badly drawn, rather crude array is showing on Vid.] This is a basic array.

A final product, from what I understand, has to be something with the base properties of what it started out as. I'm honestly not the best person to ask.

But -- isn't that just a drawing? What gives alchemy the -- energy, force, means to ... transmute ... the base materials into the final product?

((augh -- so sorry! Clearly this reply didn't go through last night.))

A diagram, yes. As to how it aids, I honestly have no clue. There is another on the Island, I believe. [Actually, she's not sure if Kimblee's still around :|] However.. I'm hesitant to trust them, Conan.

Really? An alchemist here?

How come?

Yes. He's from my world and put simply, I would rather shoot him than work with him.

He's a bad guy then?

Do you know if it's possible to make a barrier using alchemy big enough to surround this island?

He's someone I do not trust. The world I come from cannot be divided into good and bad. [It's too simplistic, and she's military. Her world is shades of grey, as much as she dislikes it.]

A barrier? No. I'm sorry.

I'll remember.

No, that's a good thing! It means we can make learning about other things a priority for now.
