The man is insufferable! thought C.C. as she glared daggers at Niles's back. Once again, she was rendered speechless. By the hired help. It's the most infuriating thing, really.
She's the one with the background, the breeding, and the education! Surely she should be able to put the butler in his place as easily as she can charm men. The irony of her civil status was not lost on C.C.
Her eyes narrowed venomously at the door Niles had disappeared through. Any minute now he's going to waltz back into the foyer with a fresh insult. And despite knowing this, it would still catch her off-guard. How did the man do it?
She wondered, briefly, whether there was something wrong with the way she dealt with the man. Her verbal attacks on his station in life are brushed off at best, and parried with a far more devastating remark at worst. What could she possibly say that the damnable butler wouldn't be able to respond to?
An idea struck her. An idea so repulsive it was perfect! The only question was: Did she have the stomach to go through with it?
C.C. was about to remind herself of all the heartache and frustration she's had at his hands when Niles arrived with a patronizing "Still here? I thought someone would have taken you for your walk by now," at the ready.
Through the corners of her eyes, C.C. checked the foyer for any witnesses. She was relieved, albeit slightly disappointed, to find they were alone during her moment of triumph. Oh well. It's not her loss. She forced a smile on her face; the attempt to hide her ill-intentions failing miserably given the suspicion suddenly flashing in Niles's eyes.
She took a step forward.
He took a step backward.
You're not getting away that easily, C.C. mentally declared, her smile growing more predatory.
Their silent dance came to a halt when C.C. had him up against the wall, her arms on either side of his head.
"Miss Babcock, if you're this desperate I'm certain even Mister Walker will be more than willing to keep you company."
"You think you're so clever," she began, a smile on her lips, a snarl in her throat, "Every time I said something you had a line that just cut me down."
"Come now, sometimes you do it all on your own."
"Well, let's see what you have to say about this-" Her lips were locked with his before the butler had a chance to respond. The next thing she knew, she was grabbing at his suit and he was grabbing at her blazer. Hands groped and explored unfamiliar territory, making note of places to return a second, third, even a fourth time given the chance. There was an urgency each time their lips parted and pressed against skin.
It was C.C. who pulled (though she would argue she ripped herself) away from the kiss. Smoothly, she turned on her heels and marched towards the mirror.
"What do you say to that?" She smirked at Niles' small reflection in the mirror. Focusing on her own disheveled image, she quickly began straightening her hair and reapplying make-up. She nearly jumped when she realized the butler was standing directly behind her.
"I've had better," He stated, almost bored.
C.C. snorted in derision, viciously capping the tube of lipstick before chucking it into her purse. "Talk is cheap."
She felt his arms wind around her waist, felt his breath hot against her cheek, felt him breathe into her ear, "Oh I intend to put my money where my mouth is."
And for the first time, C.C. didn't mind finding herself at a loss for words.
