Russell is not a creature of habit. There are places on the island that he frequents, but never in any enforced sort of structure. It's after the dinner rush has cleared out that he appears in the kitchen, not hungry yet but making sure that he might be able to get a moment of quiet before settling down.
That said, while he tries not to be a hypocrite, it's hard when he spots a familiar face (if only marginally familiar).
Maybe it's the fact that nothing particularly exciting has happened in the time that he's been here, and maybe it's the fact that there's no one to stop him, but when he spots Buffy Summers, he makes a beeline over.
