"Aye, the latter," Rahne said, eyebrows raising as she folded her arms over her chest, terse, but no more than was customary for her. It tended to be her default state, but her tone wasn't especially heavy, just barely lilting up, curious. She'd merely been out for a run, as she found herself doing often; stopping wasn't a question, though, not when he looked decidedly hungover. Unacquainted with the state herself, she had nevertheless spent enough time around people who did drink frequently to recognize the signs of it. Given that, she could definitely spare him a moment, for her own amusement if nothing else. "Ye seem like ye've seen better days."
"That easy to tell?" Feigning sheepishness, he dropped his hand, squinting briefly as he offered up a lopsided smile and a nod in greeting. His entire frame seemed looser to a degree, in that how he used his awareness of his own movements seemed more fluid, assured without being wound up. Rolling his shoulders, he glanced back up at the path. "You, on the other hand, look positively chipper."
"Oh, I'm sure," Rahne deadpanned, well aware that she didn't, really. Chipper wasn't an expression she wore well, something saved for special occasions when it was truly merited, which right now, it wasn't. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened, and while that was certainly not a bad thing, it was hardly cause for bouncing off the #%@$ing walls. "Ye don't make it that difficult. Being able to tell, that is."
Shifting his weight to one foot, Russell pulled a face, head cocking to one side. "Fair," he said, after a moment of mock thought, following the word up with another nod. "And how was your Mardi Gras? I don't think I saw you at the party." Given how much more put-together she seemed, he'd guess that she either hadn't stayed long or had been a sort of designated driver. Or she was straightedge. At any rate, hers was one of the faces on the island that he recognized beyond a cursory glance, and he was fairly sure he'd remember having come across her.
