Five years in journalism and three years in broadcasting taught me some useful things, some of which I've even remembered. Some days I have to bang my head against the wall to get good copy; other times it jumps sideways into my head fully formed. Half the fun is figuring out what will intrigue a person long enough to read the announcement, and will pique their curiosity enough for them to make the effort to show up, hopefully with more than a pulse. Add enough info to help them visualize what you intend to create and FAQ links to bring them up to speed so that they can become a part of it. That, balanced with the underlying tenet of "Brevity is the soul of wit." I.e. I start with something big and sloppy and see how much I can weed out.
