Exhibit B: Week 1- Chillin' Like a Villian

May 15, 2013 17:47

You locked away your heart,
Detached from all passion
I fought for your love,
But you sat on your icy throne,
I your puppet.

I told you all:
the pain, the fear, the scars
You preyed on my weakness,
Erecting your frigid castle.

But Heaven's Flame emerged,
It razed your wintry kingdom,
Bathed in heat,

you fell.
Ignited by intensity,

Ooooh nice, especially considering the circumstances of what you had to work with and how you guys did this.

I gotta say though - my interpretation is that the narrator forgives the person in the end? After my experiences with my emotionally abusive ex-best friend, I sure wouldn't!

Which means that I could totally identify with the poem and felt it emotionally, so yay good job!

Thanks! That means a lot considering I don't often write poetry.

Yeah, he forgives her. My partner is a newly wed and wrote hers about her and her new husband I'm assuming; but I really wanted to have the two relate so I made a "fake" past that showed how relationships aren't always happy.

The person in this who was abusive may have been under different circumstances than you and your friend. To me, she was afraid to give away her herself and instead liked control. It was the narrator who helped her open up and change. At least that's the intention I wrote it with, but thanks so much for reading it!

Very nice. The ending left me with the interpretation that being together was no longer an option, but you severed the strings and in setting the other free, gave them ( and you) the chance to move on.

Thank you! Personally, I feel like poems (and novels alike) are at the reader's own interpretation. That being said, my partner wrote her poem first. She a newly wed, so hers reflects this time in her life. I wanted mine to be the start of a (not necessarily theirs)relationship and the difficulties they overcame; however, poetry isn't my strong suit, so delivering the message accurately is rather challenging.

Very Nice! My interpretation is that the relationship had to end and the narrator set the other free so they both could move on.

Was having trouble to post my comment. I see LJ ended up giving you both.

Once again, poetry that resonates with me. This is great. I love the imagery in it.

Hauntingly beautiful. I like that there was closure at the end, even after all they had been through.
