I just got into an argument with this guy about moral relativism and the nature of good and evil. He swore up and down that all things can be classified as good or evil, right or wrong. Ive wasted the last 2 hours of my life trying to prove to him otherwise, but hes just TOO thick. We got into 9/11 and wether or not it was inherently evil ( Read more... )

Thats what I was asking him. I personally think we all have a sense of right and wrong. However what constitutes each changes from person to person, culture to culture. It most cases whos to say ones better than the other. Good and Evil are both relative to what angle you're looking at them from. Thing are rarely black and white. The world would be a much simpiler place if they were.

So...good and evil do not exist, except how a person has come to percieve them as such. This perception will not only vary from culture to culture, but also from person to person.

Am I reading you right?

exactly, its moral relativism. The idea that everyone and everything can be sorted into two general catagories as circumstantialy defined as good and evil baffels me.
