It sounds like the doctors and nurses have been pretty compassionate - do you think they or maybe your aunt or other relatives/friends visiting would be willing to read little letters from you? Like if you wrote one here and there to keep him updated when you can't visit since it's clear your visits & presence do him so much good. Or maybe you're already doing something similar...

whenever my aunt is there and he is awake & alert she will call me and (if i'm not at work) i will talk to him on speaker phone
