Oh John Stewart...*loves even harder*

I remember a TV news special about Don't Ask, Don't Tell that had openly gay servicemen talking about how most of their units had dealt with it fine, and it warmed my heart.

Then the cameras cut to some high-ranking military dude, who upon having it pointed out to him that other countries let gays into the military and encountered zero problems, basically snorted and said (paraphrasing), "Yeah, but those countries are total pussies. America is badasss, and the fags would make the military all gay and shit."

It was sort of jaw dropping to actually hear out loud...*pets America soothingly*

Yes, Jon, Congress should be embarrassed right now.

I can't believe this is still up for debate.

I think the struggle for gay rights can easily be compared to the struggle for equality for African Americans. Nowadays most people can't imagine living in a world of blantant racism (sure racism happens, but it's not printed on a board and hung above a water fountain), yet some people long for the "good ole days". Some people will ALWAYS be idiots, but I find it AMAZING that there are so many of them.

Yes, we just saw that this morning. I just loved his wry closer to that -- why put things off?

What's interesting though are his/Colbert's audience reactions. While they are overall supportive of gay issues and the gay-related humor, there's definitely more discomfort there for gay men.
