Full-face helmets - standard or flip-face?

May 28, 2008 17:04

After making a post questioning which motorcycle helmet to get, I realized it's better off posted here.If you have any experience with flip-face helmets (nudge-nudge, Pi3832), please go over there and take a look. Thanks ( Read more... )

I've got both, I like the flip-face one for its convenience, especially as a wearer of glasses, but it isn't as head-comfortable (forehead pressure, shape) as my Shoei.

I have a nolan flip-up that I like a lot. A few people have commented on its weight, but I really don't notice that anymore. I also have the bluetooth intercom system installed, so that adds a little. Flip-ups are a lot nicer for eyeglass wearers, also.

I have the Nolan N100, and am planning to get the new N102 (with an integrated sun visor). I neither wear glasses, nor smoke - I love it for quick gas stops that allow me to get a snack and a drink without taking off the helmet. I also use it in MSF class and the students can hear me and see my facial expression.

The weight has never been an issue. And I seem to have a 'Nolan head'.

Go to a shop and try on helmets. Then check online for prices. I found a local shop that has the helmet I want for less than Helmetshop.com and Iron Pony.

Yep. Me too. My first helmet was a HJC Full-Face, when I got a N100 I was in love. For glasses wearers it's great, and it's really nice to hear and be heard while wearing it.

When I get a new helmet (and bike...) it might be a Shoei, I've heard they're even quieter, but there' also a good chance it'll be a N102.

So, um, where exactly are your ears, if flipping the face makes you hear better?

I wear an HJC CL-Max. I'll never go back to non-"flip-face" (HJC calls them "modular") helmets.

"I'll never go back to non-"flip-face" (HJC calls them "modular") helmets."

Why? Were you a standard helmet wearer before? If I remember correctly, you just got a new bike a while back. I'm not sure if it was your first.

Why does this helmet make you want to stick with flip-face helmets from now on?

I'm planning on spending a bit of change, so I'm gathering as much info as I can first. I'm still leaning toward the RF-1000.

A friend of mine's a reseller from helmethouse.com. I was just about to announce that I'm putting together an order from there and we can get a slight discount if we make his minimum (I'm not sure what it is, but it's not larger, just larger than one visor)

Cool. I'm still not sure what I'll be getting, but I think it's time.
