My favorite thing is that he didn't really make her turn it back on. Because that's not how things are done, because she can't be forcefully made better. She can't be coaxed. What he can do is simply be with her, not leave her. Doesn't sound very impressive, but in the end, it's everything.

I agree with you on the whole switch business. He's got the time, she's got the time -- why not just have patience? Why the immediate rush to force it, especially since he still seems to be of two minds about turning Elena human again. I've always appreciated the Damon that plays the long game -- the one that waited so long for Katherine and told Elena that they were "right just not right now."
