This has been a long time coming.
VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.
First off, let me just say to anyone who is a fan of the Twilight series on the f-list, you probably want to avoid this post. No offense is intended to you--this is just my take on it..........and my take isn't very fangirl friendly. =[ I really don't want to offend you guys, because

You got that shitty excuse for a series spot on.
When I first read them, I thought this was really bad Buffy/Spike fan fiction with a bit of Oz thrown in. All she did was change their names.

I'm not familiar with Buffy myself (though I really wanna watch the show!), but you're not the first person I've heard bring that point up. Hmmm, SMeyer...*glowers*

My answer to your question about why it's so popular? Wish fulfillment. Pure escapism, seriously. Bella has no real personality (other than annoying) so girls can plug themselves into the story where this (insanely annoying) perfect, hot guy loves the more than life itself. Seriously. That's all. The end.
How, I have often wondered, does bad fanfiction get fucking published, and better yet, how can people actually LIKE it? That's the thing that really bothers me: I have friends who write so much better fanfiction, on a level that I think deserves to be published. But what's getting published is this b.s. It angers me.
Twilight was by far the best of the bunch, and even that one left me unimpressed and indifferent. As I've only read that one and find it bad enough, I can't imagine what the rest of them are like. *shudders* Well, I can imagine. I just don't want to.
I thought the story was silly and poorly written, but I didn't hate it, not really. It was like any other bad YA novel I'd picked up ( ... )

That's so true. I guess, when you get right down to it, this is the kind of stuff pre-teens gobble up like candy. And when it's offered in 700 page form? Haha, now this is starting to make sense.

It was a waste of my time, so I swore never to read the others and waste even more of my precious time. Ahaha, I should have done that too.
Also, I ADORE your use of famous author quotes. They're some of my favorites, and absolutely brilliant. Yay! I'm glad you liked them; I had fun digging them up. The ( ... )

Yes, the first one is so incredibly fitting. So incredibly.
I roll my eyes sometimes when hardcore feminists search for sexism in every little thing, but this? Me, too. I try to be reasonable about it, which is pretty easy considering that I love guy. But I totally understand their objections to this.
I'm actually in pretty complete agreement with everything you said about abortion. Complete agreement.
I've got the roundup up now, including your link, and also a link to the interview with SMeyer that said that about "forgetting". You'll really enjoy it. And thanks!

I can't believe people compare Twilight and SMeyer to HP and JKR, I mean, are you freaking kidding me?
Respectfully, SMeyer, I’m gonna listen to my fifth grade D.A.R.E. program and just say, “No fucking way.” <333
