"Why are you mad?" he asked bluntly, as she fiddled with an IV on the opposite side of the patient’s bed.

“If you don't know, I'm not telling you,” she said quietly. She didn’t particularly want to bring this fight into the workplace, but if it had to come to it, there was no use in avoiding the issue.

"I mean...I don’t get it,” he said, a little hopelessly.

“You wouldn't,” she muttered sardonically. Of course someone like Kutner wouldn’t be able to grasp something so very female.

"Then why not explain it to me? We aren't...I mean...are we?" he asked, a little awkwardly. She paused in her fidgeting.

“Well... no... but... never mind.” Of course, he had found the one glaring flaw in her rage; they weren’t ‘together’.

He looked a bit exasperated. "Come on, just tell me. I already apologized..."

“I hardly think, 'I'm sorry I banged your friend,' is a very good apology,” she sniped. The patient was looking between the two with obvious interest. “I don’t want to talk about this here,” she added, leaving the room.

Ever-persistent, Kutner followed. "...Well, I am sorry. It just happened, and I didn’t realize you'd get this mad about it! I didn’t think it was that serious..."

“Well, I suppose it's not, then,” she said evasively.

"If you think it is, then it obviously means something. So let me in?" he asked, a glimmer of hope voicing itself as he grabbed her arm to stop her from walking away.

“No.”

He frowned and let go of her arm. "This is ridiculous, Remy. What I did was stupid, you could at least tell me how to fix it."

“I'm sorry you find this so ridiculous, Larry,” she hissed, gritting her teeth.
"Yes, I do find you ridiculous, Dr. Hadley. While you're so busy blaming me for this, did you ever consider that your friend could possibly be at fault too?"

“I'm sure she is, Dr. Kutner, but she's not the one I'm sleeping with, is she?”

"Sleeping with. Right. I didn’t...cheat on you or anything. As far as I was aware, at least." His hands fell uselessly to his sides.

“No, no, of course not. But, you know, you could have told me, instead of hiding it,” she said. Honestly, he was becoming harder and harder to stay mad at, and her excuses for staying mad were running short.

Kutner winced. "Admittedly stupid. I panicked, alright? Wouldn’t you?"

“No. I would’ve been honest with you. You should get that ‘panicking’ think fixed.”

"Oh God forbid I freak over the prospect of making you mad. How horrible of me.” He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest.

“Fine, whatever,” she snapped, turning away, but not actually going anywhere.

"What do you want from me? Honestly, I have no idea. I've apologized like six times. What do you want me to do? Beg for forgiveness?" There was a hint of desperation in his voice that was oddly endearing.

“I don't know, that might be nice,” she said with a tiny smile.
