“Tomi, Tomi, Tomi,” Bill sang softly, padding delicately into Tom’s room and tugging on his brother’s dreadlocks, awakening him from a brief and wholly unplanned nap.

Tom’s eyelashes fluttered and he vaguely made out the image of Bill’s face looming over him. “What, Bill?” he mumbled. “I thought you were going to watch TV downstairs for a while.”

“I did, Tomi,” Bill said, wide-eyed, “but then they made fun of my hair.”

Tom’s head snapped up as his protective older brother instinct kicked in automatically. “Who made fun of your hair?” He felt like he was back in school, standing up to the boys who couldn’t understand why Bill dressed differently and were certainly not going to let him get away with it.

“The people on TV.”

Tom sighed. “Again?”

Bill nodded, his big doe eyes filling with sadness. “I’m the second most annoying German of the year.”

“Didn’t you get number one last year?”

“Mhm.”

“Well…” Tom shrugged. “Then number two is an improvement, right? Who was number one?”

“I don’t know.” Bill pouted. “I turned it off.”

Tom rolled his eyes and opened his arms. “Come here.”

Bill gratefully cuddled against his brother, resting his chin on Tom’s chest and looking up at him. “Am I annoying, Tomi?”

“Not unless you’re singing advertising jingles, playing with toy planes, tugging on my dreads to wake me up, or being weirdly hyper for no reason whatsoever.”

Bill smiled. “Good. Wait…” he frowned. “I do that stuff a lot.”

“Yeah.” Tom squeezed his brother’s hip affectionately. “I know.”

“Hey!”

“Oh, chill out. You know I love you really. You’re my little brother.”

“By ten minutes,” Bill huffed.

“Yeah, ten whole minutes,” Tom said with a wink.

“You’re mean, Tomi,” Bill said sulkily, but snuggled closer anyway.

Tom chuckled. “You love it.”
