gender programming

#1Son is going through an obnoxious "I hate girls" phase. As part of this he hates "girly" tv programmes. He's not good at explaining what makes a tv show "girly" - but apparently Sofia the First isn't.

I'm desperately not commenting :D

(Oh! Apparently Minnie's Bowtique is ok too.)

I'm a bit confused. LOL! I just looked at the site and played the Sofia games and I found it really obnoxiously girly. They really should inject a bit of feminism in the site - sticks finger down throat!

Could it be that that he doesn't equate girl cartoon characters with real girls?

It's pretty dire. The first episode we watched Sofia had swum into a cave to rescue her friend from a sorcerous monster. I was optimistic. Then she hauled herself into the boat and her giant cake of a dress poofed out. *sigh*

On questioning #1Son reveals he thinks the main difference between boys and girls is hair colour. I did point out a few counter examples, he pouted.
