Not again. It's an infestation

Sorry I haven't been responding to everyone. I always pride myself on being good at that. I have been reading but I've just been so busy lately. By the end of the day I'm too tired to post or respond. I like making one post at the end of the day so I don't flood the friends list. One of my pet peeves is when people make a bunch of posts in ( Read more... )

Keeping up a pond in Florida with the heat is probably not an easy feat, but Im pretty sure if someone can do it its you.

Yes especially small ones like mine. But I am determined to make them work.

Evaporation in the sorts of climates we live in is pretty bad. I usually check water levels in the mornings, do top ups in the afternoon and that is generally when I do all the watering as well. Everything gets a good soak overnight and there's plenty of water around for whoever needs it. I don't have any ponds but I figure it's much the same for any sort of water containers.

Those corn snakes are gorgeous! It's kind of a shame that you can't keep them but I understand why. I like that for wild snakes, they are so friendly and don't mind being handled. I wish the snakes here would be more sociable - the not dangerous ones that is. A couple of them aren't so aggressive but they still object strongly to being handled in any way. Is there something in particularly that attracts the snakes to your garden, asides from a potential food source?

Those are very pretty pictures of the Mimosa tree. It's beautiful in bloom and that last photo is fantastic. I love how the sky creates a pretty backdrop for the flowers.

Yes, with our heat evaporation and algea are the worst things to deal with. I just did a water change for my goldfish's fountain and the water is already green again. Very annoying. THere's no shade on it until 3pm so that's a problem too.

They are very pretty. Of pet snakes Ball Pythons and Corn snakes are always recommended to beginners because they are so docile. I know you guys have so many venomous snakes. That's a shame. I was wondering that myself. These guys are mostly rodent eaters but why are they so numberous this year? Other than a mating ground I don't know what they'd want from my yard. Also I haven't seen as many black racers this year and wonder if the corn snakes are displacing them. I'd rather have black racers. Nastier tempers but they don't eat anything that belongs to me.

Thanks. How I wish I could share smells on here. That mimosa is wonderful. It was dusk just after sunset so it's neat because the sky wasn't blue. It was kind of purple.

Wow, you're brave picking up wild snakes. Even the ones that aren't venomous I'd rather not handle just because I don't want to get bitten.

The fish fountain squirting ten feet sounds hilarious. Did it splash either of you?

Those are gorgeous pics of the mimosa trees!

The worst snake bite I've gotten was from a big six foot yellow rat snake that was in the road and I was trying to save. Because of this I don't like yellow rat snakes. I'm cautious with black racers since they bite too but luckily they haven't bitten me yet. I guess since I know which ones aren't venemous I'm not afraid of them though I'm aware they'll bite.

It was so funny. I couldn't stop laughing. No luckily I had aimed it to the side of us. But now I know how to empty half the pond.

It's so pretty. Just that baby trees pop up every where.

A rare opportunity I get to use my Twitter icon XD
I don't get those people who post their Twitter in their LJ. I only have one person like that luckily. On Firefox I have the Echofon app, which is a little thing that shows when your friends tweet. My friends and I kinda use it as an instant messenger because some of them don't have instant messengers or are on ones the others don't have etc. So for that reason I find it useful. It is horribly pointless though really.

I love the snakes, they're so cute! My fave snakes are Rainbow Boas. There was a baby one at the pet shop a few years back being sold for £99!
We have water fountains in our ponds too, one is a wormlike dragon, very cool but he needs repainting a bit.
The mimosa tree is pretty. Today I get to finally wear a t-shirt for the first time this year I've been in one all day around the house, after I had to attack some japanese knotweed in the garden.

Yes indeed. People need to leave their tweets on Twitter and not bring them here to LJ.

Rainbow Boas are wonderful little snakes. They have good temperaments for beginners. But as you see they are rare and don't have a beginner's price tag.
When we bought this fish we saw one that was an Asian dragon that was very detailed. They also had some awesome lazy frog ones but they were very expensive.
I love that tree. It's so nice.
I love wearing T shirts and flip flops. I just like being comfortable.

I'm surprised we haven't had issues with evaporation in our pond, because it's been hot here. If you have waterfalls, you can also lose water if the water spilling over misses the pond, like ours did until dad fixed it. He works very hard to keep his pond that he built nice, and I usually take care of it when he goes on vacation.

I don't care for large snakes. I don't mind small ones, but I haven't liked big ones since I've been pranked with them a few too many times.

Maybe the hummingbirds ignore the mimosa because the flowers aren't red, and maybe they aren't the right shape for the hummingbirds to lick the nectar out of.

YEah, I've read about waterfalls causing more evaporation. My fish tank loses water quickly too because the airstone causes fizzing like a soda and some of the water splashes out. Hopefully my hood will arrive today and reduce some of that.

How annoying that people playing jokes on you caused you to not like snakes. That pisses me off. It's so hard to undo that kind of damage. Corn snakes aren't big at least. They can get six feet but that's about it. They aren't heavy bodied so they look smaller than they really are.

I have a mimosa bush on the property that makes red flowers and the hummingbird loved that thing. So I don't think it's the flower shape. You may be right that he doesn't care for pink flowers then.

Even a six foot snake is too big for me unless someone else is holding it, that is someone I can trust not to laugh evilly and fling it in my face really fast. The worst prank was actually from my aunt, and it wasn't even a real snake. Some of the videos I've seen on Youtube don't really help either, although it's more the owner's fault in those than the snake's.

Well you know I wouldn't do that to you if you ever visited and I showed you my snake. Chopin's only bout four feet anyway. But I don't pull him out anyway unless someone asks to see him. And I sure don't go around scaring people. It's scary for the snake too to throw them. I also feed my snakes dead food not live because live rodents can hurt the snake. Yeah it's fun to watch them hunt and the wild ones are good at it. But Chopin got bit by a nasty mouse when I first got it and I realized it wasn't worth the risk for the entertainment. So I had to kill the rodents my self or as I do now buy frozen ones.
