In my (albeit limited so far) experience with Dr Curtis, if your account of your previous counselling is credible, then he'll most likely believe you.

Can't you give the counsellor permission to write a letter to your psych saying "I've been seeing this person since in a capacity of counsellor"? Surely that wouldn't be too much to ask?

That's what I wanted to do, but the university counselling service said they can't provide any paperwork at all. I think they're concerned about being considered a part of my medical treatment and therefore being held liable for anything if I later changed my mind mid-transition or something. My counsellor did apologise for it; I don't think she thought it was much to ask either.

Is that what's usually required? Bugger. :/

I don't think it is, certainly not via the private route anyhow. I just told Dr Reid that I'd seen a psychiatrist at the local mental hospital who referred me on to Newcastle GIC; which ignored my referral and shut down 2 years later without telling me, hence why I ended-up in Dr Reid's office. I also told him I was seeking out another local counsellor and when I found one, I told him about her, too.

That seemed to cover me. If he checked up on it, neither counsellor told me about it.

Ok, cool. That sounds promising.

Thanks!
