So I just heard that Dr Reid is retiring in Feb and not currently taking on any new patients. I feel very, very disheartened and rather hopeless. So much for saving up, which is what I was planning....
Apparently Dr Richard Curtis is taking over. I don't know what he's like.

dr richard curtis, going private, dr russell reid

I know the feeling. I was going to do the same thing - save up and see Dr. Reid, since the NHS route didn't work for me. Now he's retiring and I don't know anything about Dr. Curtis; his reputation, his methods, etc. I felt confident about Reid, but that's because he was so highly spoken of by people I trusted...

(On a lighter note - icon twins?)

I can only find two Dr Richard Curtises by googling....one is an expert in sheet metals (!) and the other is a GP who is a transman himself. This leaves me confused....

And YAY icon twins!

Dr. Curtis would be the one who is a transman himself (picture here). I saw him briefly on 17th, when I had my appointment with Dr. Reid, and he seemed ok - although I have to admit I didn't make the connection between "Richard behind the reception desk", "Britain's first transsexual GP" and "Dr. Curtis" until later at home. Must have been too excited about my first appointment to think clearly ;)

It is my understanding that even if Dr. Curtis is taking over the clinic, Dr. Reid will remain his mentor, continuing his good work for the trans community "behind the scenes". So rest easy and keep on saving - private route is still available for us. Even if I don't know Dr. Curtis's reputation or methods, it's obvious that Dr. Reid has placed his trust in him and that's worth something.

You beat me to it, I was just about to post this in case others didn't know.

I kind of know how you feel though, I nearly got referred to RR but he wasn't taking on any new NHS patients at the time due to being under investigation. I'm sure your savings won't be wasted though.

i'm feeling similarly concerned. i wanted to see dr reid, but i'm not 18 til april so i didn't even have the opportunity. i'd trust dr reid because of how many good things i've heard about him, but dr curtis could be completely different. sigh.
